5 months later

Pregnant Avneet was the crankiest version of her I had ever seen. Her cramps and mood swings had been very bad since the last few days, and even extra help from Vaishu bhabhi and Abhishek bhaiya had not been enough.

Vaishu bhabhi had announced a month earlier that she was going to shift to our house to take care of Avneet while I went to the office. Things had been crazy on the business front lately, and it, too, demanded my attention.

Not one to let Bhabhi go, Abhishek Bhaiya and the kids accompanied her here. They have set up a cosy, homely environment on our third floor. The playroom has been triple-locked since. We could not risk anyone wandering around and seeing things we didn't want them to see.

"Siddharth, I'm hungry," Avneet whined from my right side on the bed.

"What do you want to eat, baby?" I said, slightly smiling at her cute pout even through my tired face.

"Raspberry ice-cream."

Was that a thing?

"I'll get it for you, baby." I quickly got up from the bed and wore my t-shirt and pyjamas.

"I don't think you'll find it in the market." She sniffed, and my heart kick started. I did not want her to cry.

"I'll find it, I promise."

It took me two long, excruciating hours of driving around the town to find an open department store. Finding the ice cream was a task that took me quite as long, but I was not one to give up.

When I finally found it, I paid for it and drove like a madman to my house because I did not want it to melt on the way.

"I got you raspberry ice cream," I told her cheerfully.

Avneet broke into sobs, and I did not know how to handle it.

"What happened, rabbit?" I asked, getting on the bed and wiping her tears.

"I want to eat orange ice cream now," she said through her sobs.

"Then I'll get orange ice cream for you." I pressed a kiss to her forehead and picked up the car keys.

Orange ice cream was not a difficult task, and I was back in no time.

"Here it is, baby."

She threw the ice cream pack in my face, and I barely dodged it, too shocked at her outburst.

"You got me the cheapest brand," she yelled.

I hadn't.

"Which one do you want? I'll get that for you," I said, trying to calm her down.

The man at the payment counter kindly smiled at me when I purchased orange ice cream in every single brand.

"Pregnant wife?" He asked.

"Is it that obvious?"

"Running around the town at 4 AM looking for the correct brand of orange ice cream? I would say yes," he chuckled, and I snorted.

"We're six months through."

"Congratulations! When you hold your baby in your arms, you'll find that all this struggle was worth it."

"I know," I said, smiling in the distance.

I had seen Abhishek Bhaiya come home on time day after day to be able to spend time with his kids after dinner, play games and build forts, give them a horse ride, and fake death when they shot with their fingers. It was the most adorable thing ever, and I could not wait to have this.
