39: Mia

Mia and Zee entered the conference room where Stray Kids were already present along with Jihyo and Jeongyeon. Zee saw a tray of bubble teas, picked up her cup, and sat in a chair next to Minho at the end of the table near the door. Mia picked up her cup and left, but Jihyo stopped her, so she sat grumpy next to Zee. Zee held her hand under the table and squeezed it. Mia squeezed back.

"So," Jihyo said, standing up, "there are a few things we need to cover. Luna was supposed to do that but I had a hunch it would come down to this, so I'm here. Also," she pointed at Jihyo, "this is Jeongyeon. My gang was twice and we were 9 members. Now we work as Shadows."

"Mostly," Jeongyeon winked at them. 

"Anyways," Jihyo continued, smiling, "we have another lead. Kai and Haewon, aka Chorang, we're just gonna call her Haewon, will be attending a masquerade ball next Tuesday night."

"Sounds like an old royal thing," Chan said.

"Oh yes, it does," Jihyo replied. "I think it's some gang leader's daughter's stepping up party and she's into royal stuff. They're invited and they'll definitely attend. Hajun and Yumi are attending too. They'll be confirming a deal with someone."

"Are the Shadows invited?" Changbin asked.

"Are Stray Kids invited?" Jihyo threw back.

"Fair enough," Changbin shrugged. 

"Doesn't mean we're not attending," Jeongyeon laughed. "It's a high profile event so of course the entries are digital, along with the invitations. We'll forge some under fake names."

"How many of us can sneak in?" Minho asked.

"One," Zee replied.

"One from Stray Kids," Jihyo corrected. "Which one of you is good at sneaking into small places? Especially air vents in the ceilings."

"That would be Jisung," Chan said, pointing at Jisung who was sitting next to him. He flushed.

Jihyo turned to him. "Good at crawling without noises?"

Jisung nodded. His face was red. Zee had the urge to squish his cheeks.

"He's done that stuff before, he's the best at that," Minho said, and oh wow, his ear tips were also slightly red.

"That's decided then," Jihyo clapped her hands together. "Han Jisung, you and Luna will sneak into the ball. We'll decide the details later."

"Huh?" Jisung spluttered. "With Luna?"

"Yeah," Jihyo's eyebrows furrowed. "Is there any issue with that?"

"No," Jisung bit his lip.

"If there is, you can tell us," Jihyo said, not convinced. Zee looked at Minho who opened his mouth to say something, but one look from Jisung and he stopped.

"Nothing," Jisung reassured her. "But why Luna?"

"She's the best at this," Zee said, feeling slightly defensive. "She can sneak around and blend into people really easily."

"And she's just generally the best," Mia spoke, more focused on her boba. 

"Whatever they said," Jihyo said. "Jeongyeon now has something to say."

Jeongyeon waved her hand as if dismissing her. "That sounds too formal, but yes, I had to address something."

She sat down at the head chair. "Sorry, I'm really tired and can't stand any longer, my back hurts." She then turned serious. "First of all, this is off-topic, but what you saw today was not what you guys were supposed to witness. We got our schedules messed up so you had to witness all that mess. Also, Luna walking off is something no one questions. It's her choice. Killing off people that you were close with once isn't an easy thing and 'd appreciate it if none of you mentioned this in front of her."
