Family dinner tonight, don't forget. Love you guys.

I read my mothers note she left on the kitchen counter once I woke up. My eyes roll by her choice of words "family dinner" she wants us to desperately like the new guy she's going out with.

Reggie and I have a bet going on, I give it another month before she gives us the usual "it didn't work out" statement. Our mother never usually settles with just one man. In fact in the past year she's already introduced us to 3 men and let me say, she has a type. Handsome and rich.

Who am I to judge though? As her daughter who goes through boys like clothes, it's a mother daughter thing.

"How lame. I wanted to invite a friend over tonight." Reggie frowns as he reads the note.

"You have friends?"

"Yes I'm quite miss popular, like you" He sarcastically speaks.

"I wanted to invite Jude over. Not to study but to watch The Great Gatsby. He happens to be interested in famous classics like me." He talks proudly of himself.

"You're friends with your tutor? god Reggie please hang out with people your age." I scoff as he squints his eyes at me. Although internally I was pleased if he did come tonight or not.

"It's a normal friendly relationship, you're so condescending sometimes. Plus I have friends in my grade." He shrugs.

"Name one." I say.

"Billy." He says following with an awkward silence.

"Anyway, let's go. I don't wanna be late." He rushes out the door.

"Of course, wouldn't wanna make Billy wait on you!" I yell out after he leaves.

I let Reggie chose what to put on the radio because in his words he "needs his morning affirmations" so he has me listening to "Ten positive daily affirmations."

"I am strong"

"I am smart"

"I am brave"

"I am-

"I'm about to turn this shit off." I tell him as I turn off the radio.

"Hey!" He says as he sucks his teeth.

"Why don't you give grandma a call if you wanna hear all those things? She'll compliment you more heartily." I tell him.
