Shubman had the final match against Chennai Super Kings coming up. The excitement in the air was palpable, and Sara was in the stands, cheering him on with every ounce of her energy. The match was intense, with both teams giving it their all.
Shubman batted brilliantly, showcasing his skills and determination, but despite his best efforts, Gujarat Titans started to fall behind. The tension in the stadium was immense as each ball was bowled. Sara watched anxiously, her heart racing with every run scored and every wicket taken.
As the match progressed, it became clear that CSK had the upper hand. The final overs were crucial, and Shubman tried his best to turn the game around, but the gap was too wide. In the end, Gujarat Titans fell short, and CSK emerged victorious.
The crowd erupted in cheers for CSK, and while the GT fans were disappointed, they still applauded their team's effort. Shubman stood on the field, exhausted and disheartened.
Shubman walked back towards his teammates. He saw Hardik standing a little apart from the rest, talking to the team management. Without a word, Shubman approached him and wrapped his arms around Hardik, resting his head on his captain's shoulder.
Hardik, feeling the weight of Shubman's disappointment, gently patted his back. "You did great, Shub," he said softly. "We all did. It's just how the game goes sometimes."
Shubman took a deep breath, trying to steady his emotions. "I know, bhai. It just hurts, you know? We were so close."
Hardik nodded. "I get it. But we have to remember this feeling, let it fuel us for next season. We've come a long way, and we'll come back stronger."
Shubman lifted his head and managed a small smile. "You're right. Thanks for being there, bhai."
Hardik grinned. "Always, little brother. Now, let's get out of here and get some rest. We've got a long night ahead of us."
As they walked towards the team bus, Shubman felt a bit lighter. The support of his captain and friend meant the world to him. They climbed onto the bus, where the rest of the team was already seated, looking tired but supportive.
Sara, waiting near the bus, waved at Shubman, signaling that she'd see him later. He waved back, feeling a warmth spread through him at her gesture. As the bus pulled away, he looked around at his teammates, knowing they would face the next challenge together, no matter what.
Later that night, after everyone had settled down in their rooms, Shubman took out his phone and saw a message from Shahneel. Hey champ, tough luck today. Proud of you!
Shubman smiled and replied, Thanks, di. We'll get them next time.
He then looked at the picture he had taken at the cliffs earlier, remembering the calmness he had felt with Sara by his side. Determined to move forward and keep fighting, Shubman finally drifted off to sleep, knowing he had a strong support system behind him.
As Sara scrolled through her social media feed later that night, she came across a picture someone had taken of Shubman hugging Hardik on the field. The emotion on Shubman's face tugged at her heart. She couldn't bear to see him so upset, especially after everything he had been through.
Determined to comfort him, Sara decided to visit his hotel room. She knocked softly on the door, and after a few moments, Shubman opened it, looking surprised but pleased to see her.
"Sara, what are you doing here?" he asked, stepping aside to let her in.
"I saw the picture," she said gently. "I just wanted to make sure you're okay."
Shubman sighed and nodded. "I'm better now. It's just... it was a tough loss."
Sara walked over and gave him a comforting hug. "I know, but you played amazingly well. You should be proud of yourself."
They sat down on the edge of the bed, and Shubman leaned into her embrace, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. "Thanks, Sara. It means a lot to me that you're here."
Sara smiled softly and stroked his hair. "You don't have to thank me. I'm here because I care about you."
As they talked, the tension from the day's match slowly melted away. They found themselves lying down, still wrapped in each other's arms. Sara whispered, "You need to rest. Tomorrow is a new day, and you need your strength."
Shubman nodded, his eyes already heavy with sleep. "Will you stay with me?" he asked quietly.
"Of course," Sara replied, pulling the covers over them. She cuddled up to him, feeling his warmth and heartbeat against her. Shubman wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as he drifted off to sleep.
Throughout the night, Sara stayed by his side, her presence a constant source of comfort and reassurance. As they slept, both found solace in each other's company, ready to face whatever challenges the future held together.
