"What." Taylor said sharply"My family thinks we're dating." I repeated
Lie, Lie, Lie
"Travis! What the fuck! How, wh- why, what?!" She stuttered "Why would you tell them that?"
"I didnt! I wouldn't!" I countered
"Then why does your family think we're a thing?"
They dont.
"Taylor I think we should talk about this later." Lowering my tone. Some people had caught on to our yelling and were obviously invested.
"okay, just- just leave me alone for a minute." Taylor scoffed
Why. Why did I have to blurt that out at Taylors birthday party? Where there are people, lots of them. Lord help me.
I left Taylor alone for a while — per her request — since i knew when she said that, she meant it.
"Travis?" I heard a familiar voice ask
"Yeah?" I said, looking around
"What the hell happened?" Taylors best friend, Abigail, said
"I- I dont know. But I think you should go find Tay, she'll need someone to talk to." I admitted. As much as I wanted to go after Taylor, I caused this and I would just make it worse.
"Kay." Abigail nodded and turned to the direction Taylor had ran
I sighed to myself. My family didnt actually think we were dating. I had made it up. And now, I had to go with it.
I hoped that if I told Taylor, we could actually date.
8 years ago i made a promise with Taylor.
"If either of us aren't married by 25, lets marry each other. That way we will never be alone. Would you want to do that?""Of course, yeah, I think thats a really great idea Travis."
"promise?"
"promise."
I had originally asked her to do that, not for the reason id told her, but because I really liked her. I always knew she was the most beautiful girl in the world, but I also knew that I would never have a chance with her. Romantically, that is. And here we are, eight years later, 25 years old and single. I knew Taylor didnt want to marry me. But maybe she eventually would. She wouldn't brake the promise, hell I dont think shes ever broken any. One time, in middle school she cried over a pencil that she had borrowed from her friend and promised to give back, but then lost it. She keeps a rock in her pocket that I'd given her probably 10 years ago, shed promised to keep it forever. And now she could be mine, would be.
I snapped out of my haze when I heard a shuffle
"Hey." Taylor said quietly
"Tay, I- Im- Im sorry for what i said. I shouldn't have said it, not here atleast." I said after a long minute
"Yeah. Do they really think that were dating?" She asked
Come on Travis, be honest.
"um, yeah, yeah they do. My mom had seen us uhh.. at- at the park a couple weeks ago and apparently seen that id kissed you." I lied
"But you didnt"
"Thats what I tried telling her, but she wouldn't buy it"
More lies
"Oh okay, well, I guess It could be true." Taylor mumbled.
"What?"
"I mean, think about it. We have to get married now anyway, so might as well start dating, right?"
