I rest against the pillows, staring at a small group of withered trees behind a window opposite me. A bored sigh escapes my lips at the realization no one was there besides me in the deserted hospital wing.
While Ron was allowed to leave about 30 minutes after Harry and Hermione came back from the time-turner, I still had to stay for another day. I glance at the large grandfather clock diagonal from me.
5:30 pm, it read.
A scoff diverts my attention from the situation, and I meet eyes with Draco. I roll my eyes at the idea of talking to him, though Lennon and I made up.
"Malfoy," I say curtly, putting a bored expression on my face, though my heart rate was actively speeding up at the minty scent in the air.
Shit.
"Back on last name basis, are we, Y/n?" he smirks, sitting on a barstool beside me. "Scared Lennon's going to beat me up? Or are you too nervous about falling head over heels?"
"You must be the one falling head over heels if you've been thinking of all of these situations about me, along with being the one who kissed me last time," I retort, gently poking him in the ribs with a wink. He pinches his eyebrows together at the memory, but quickly shrugs it off, ignoring the comment.
"You wish," he adds with an eye roll. "Still, I believe you were the one that had to spend time in here when I had to come to the hospital wing, so you could say I'm just... returning the favor." He shrugs, gazing out the same window as me as he adjusts his tie, making it slightly askew.
"Anyway, weren't you the one that kissed me first, Y/n?" He smirks, tilting his head slightly as his eyes look at me lazily.
"Shut up," I say quickly, diverting my eyes to my bedsheet as I twist it in my hands, gently sinking my teeth into my bottom lip to give me something else to focus on. His attitude quickly turns serious as well, causing him to rock back and forth on the chair, darting his eyes around the room before mumbling,
"Stop it."
Stop what? What was he talking about?
We sit in awkward silence before a loud crash from our left has us snap our attention to the door.
"Y/n!" Professor Lupin exclaims, running a hand through his thin hair as he bustles past Draco, who quickly gets up, his face red, out the door. "Are you ok? I'm so sorry, I couldn't control it, and-"
"Professor Lupin, it's ok! Most of my blood is still in my body, and that's where it's supposed to be!" I say cheerfully but quickly shut up at the realization of how bad what I'm saying sounds.
I'm such a charmer, aren't I?
"God, Y/n, I don't deserve your apology," he groans, knocking a fist gently on his head.
"It's fine, really! Sir, as you said, you couldn't control it, and that's-"
"Remus!" Madam Pomfrey's shrill voice yells causing me to jump about a foot in the air. "Let the girl go to dinner, it's nearly time!"
After more polite conversation and 'I'm extremely sorry' comments, I walk to the Great Hall, where I spot Lennon grinning at me, urging me to come over.
"Geez, Lennon, I didn't realize you missed me this much," I laugh as Lennon gives me another huge hug in the common room. To be honest, I probably missed him even more, but I kept quiet.
It wasn't every day you see your usually chill friend obsessing over you like a child.
"You're my best friend, Y/n! Of course, I missed you!"
"I know, Lennon. I missed you too!" I laugh, but as I raise a fist for our usual handshake, Lennon quickly gets up, running a hand through his hair, and mumbles something along the lines of, 'Gotta go... Kind of tired...' before he rushes into the boys' dormitories, leaving me sitting with a dumbfounded expression on my face.
What the bloody hell was that all about?
I didn't say anything wrong, for all I know.
I quickly get up, knocking on the door where Lennon was most likely hiding behind, only to be met with a tall boy who is most definitely not Lennon staring at me. Pretty sure his name was... Blaise?
"Y/n?" The boy asks, a confused expression on his face. "This is the-"
"The boys' dorms, I know. Can I talk to Lennon? It's important."
"Sure."
Blaise turns around, shouting Lennon's name, who comes out sheepishly behind him, red-faced.
"Thanks, Blaise," I mutter before pulling Lennon into the hallway and talking to him in a hushed voice.
"What was that?"
"What?"
"You know what."
"Nothing, Y/n. I was tired,"
"Oh, please, your lies are more see-through than glass," I recite, grimacing slightly for remembering the blonde's words so clearly.
"I promise, everything's fine."
I raise an eyebrow at the obviously-false statement, but suppress an accusation because I don't want to get into another fight with Lennon after just recovering from one.
"Lennon," I state slowly, my breath hitching in an attempt to stay calm. "If you are fine, good. But if there's anything wrong, you can tell me. I promise. Promise me back."
I stick out my hand, my palm facing upwards. We had made hand promises for as long as I can remember, and while it sounded silly, it had always grown on us until the point where it meant something. Something special.
Lennon eyes me suspiciously, but then places his hand on mine face-down, a small smile tugging the corners of his lips.
"I Promise," he whispers.
