Kushi was engrossed in thoughts when Arnav entered the room. He looked at her packed clothes on one side of the bed while her thoughts lingered elsewhere; she was staring through the window.
"Kushi, is everything alright?" Arnav asked the rather quiet Kushi. "Yes, everything is fine Arnav ji. I was just waiting for you..." Kushi looked at Arnav, hesitating whether to ask or not.
"Yes, do you want something? What's going on in your mind?" a slightly worried Arnav inquired.
"Well, Babuji is getting discharged today, and I was thinking of staying with him..." Before she could complete, Arnav interjected, "Of course, you should be with him." Kushi continued hesitantly, "I want to be there with him for a month, is that okay with you?"
Arnav was taken aback; he felt like a clock was ticking in his head. He had uselessly spent the first three months, and now Kushi wanted to be with her father. For every step he took, Kushi walked two steps behind.
"Babuji has gone through a lot because of me, right from Sheesh Mahal to my engagement and my marriage, not to mention anyone, but I feel like I've been the center of all the bad things that happened to him. At least now, I want to be with him, spend some time, Arnav ji. Can I go?" Kushi requested.
Arnav thought for a moment; if Kushi was the center of these things, then what was he supposed to be? The entire thing itself?
"Why are you asking me, Kushi? You used to say... when we do something good, what's there to hesitate, and who is there to stop... Now, suddenly, you're seeking my permission," Arnav spoke. He knew he could never get closer to Kushi by chaining her by the contract.
Kushi looked at Arnav in astonishment; this was definitely not the man she had married.
"Kush hai?" Arnav smiled at Kushi. Kushi nodded and continued her packing.
Arnav had once wished that he could stuff Kushi's mouth with loads of jalebis so that she would be quiet for a minute, but when it actually happened, he couldn't bear the silence. He was all fine alone, and then she came; it was chaos, but he had found his peace in that storm.
Arnav didn't bother Kushi for the night; he felt like she wanted to keep a distance from him. For the next two days Arnav waited for her call, at least a message, but he felt like she had forgotten that she had a husband the moment she left Shantivan.
It was 10 PM.
Arnav's POV:
"Should I text her first? No, I'll call her right now. How dare she forget me?!... No, she might be with her father; I won't disturb him. But I can casually check about her father, right? No, but I asked about Uncle's health from Payal today, but Kushi won't know that."
Arnav texted Kushi, "Hi... How's Uncle's health now?" He had a weird, victorious smile on his face.
Five minutes later...
"How could she not reply to me?" Arnav asked himself, driving his car.
Arnav parked his car silently and jumped into the house by slowly pushing a glass pane window.

FanfictionThis is my slightly different take on how Arnav and Kushi's life turned around after their forced marriage. There is no question if they love each other or not, its only how much? And this story is all about that love - how it breaks, how it suffers...
