When Khushi entered her room again, Payal was smiling at her.
"Arnav ji looks like an angry person, but inside..." Before Payal could complete, Khushi gave her conclusion, "He is angry, jiji, in fact, not just angry but also rude and arrogant." Payal playfully patted Khushi's shoulder and continued, "He is sweet. He came all the way here, jumped into that window, and got bruises from my broomstick just to see you." Khushi started laughing hysterically when she heard 'broomstick,' imagining the mighty ASR getting beaten by Payal.
"Stop laughing, Khushi! How will I meet his eyes tomorrow?!" Payal worried. "Jiji, why are you worried? He should be the one who needs to worry," Khushi continued her laughter.
"Honestly, Khushi, I'm so much relieved now," Payal took a breath. "Jiji, I didn't know that you had such a wish, to beat the crap out of the lord governor," Khushi laughed again.
"You're crazy, Khushi. I'm really at peace seeing you two like this. When you told me that you're going to stay here for a month, I thought you both had fought again," Payal sighed in relief.
"And Khushi, I'm sorry," Payal held Khushi's hand in apology.
"Jiji, what are you sorry about? I don't think my sister ever did anything wrong," Khushi reaffirmed her faith.
"I was mad at you when you married Arnav ji. I badly wanted it to be false. Not because I was jealous or I thought you ruined my day, but because Shyam was there, and at that moment, I didn't think Arnav ji was right for you. I mean, whenever you both crossed paths, it was nothing but disaster, and he always broke your heart. My worry was just that, Khushi. I won't wish anything less than happiness for my sister," Payal told her heartfelt apology with tears.
Khushi hugged her sister and cried, "I told you, right? My sister can never be wrong."
Payal wiped her tears and did the same for Khushi and smiled. "How is Arnav ji really? I know I live in the same house, but he is not the one who talks, I mean, to others," Payal winked at Khushi.
"Same, like how he was. Lord governor!!!" Khushi gave a blunt answer, smiling. Payal wondered and asked, "Is he really like this, or is he romantic too?" Khushi's eyes grew larger, almost popping out of her sockets.
"Hey, Nand Kishore!!! Look at these girls sitting all night," Bua ji entered with her hand on her head.
Bua ji complained, "Sanka Devi, why are you awake? Is Arnav Babua coming back?" Khushi nodded no. "Then go to sleep. And tomorrow, you're going back with Payal to your sasural," Bua ji concluded.
"But Bua ji, I just came two days back. If you're worried about Arnav ji, I have scolded him nicely. He won't even sleep facing this side," Khushi pleaded.
"Scolded him? Your sister thrashed him, and you're scolding.... Aye, Nand Kishore, give these girls a piece of your mind. Both of you go to bed now," Bua ji switched off the lights, breaking the conversation.
Arnav couldn't sleep properly; his mind and heart replayed the same scene again and again, the way Khushi cared for him, that moment of pure love. He knew it was worth all the broomstick bruises. Blushing, he came down to get some water for himself, and he saw Shyam talking to someone. He approached closer and saw...
Seeing Arnav's shadow, they both stopped their conversation.
"Dadi! You, what are you doing here now?" Arnav asked Subhadra. She looked at Shyam and signaled him to leave.

FanfictionThis is my slightly different take on how Arnav and Kushi's life turned around after their forced marriage. There is no question if they love each other or not, its only how much? And this story is all about that love - how it breaks, how it suffers...
