"You can't?" Richard inquired, raising an eyebrow. "Why not?"
Amy puffed her cheeks out, a picture of adorable concern. "Miss Angelina won’t allow me to go out! If I say yes to move in with you without her permission, she’ll be furious!" The thought of Angelina’s disapproving glare made her frown deepen.
Richard chuckled softly, which made Amy tilt her head in confusion, curious about what was so funny.
"Oh, you are such a precious little girl, aren't you? Is that why you said you couldn't? Here, take this," he said, handing her a note. "Now you have her permission".
With a gentle touch, Amy accepted the note from his hand and unfolded it carefully. She began to read the words written inside, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Dear Amy,
It’s truly a miracle—Richard has been found!
Although we have shared many wonderful moments together, I must now take my leave. I will be traveling with Richard's parents on their journey. I wish you could come with us, but I truly believe you will find more happiness with Richard by your side. He will take care of you while I am away.
I promise to stay in touch with plenty of letters and photographs.
