The sun had barely risen, casting a golden hue over the granite cliffs of Yosemite National Park. I stood at the entrance, my heart racing with excitement. It was my first day exploring this breathtaking expanse of nature.

Are you guys ready?” The principal shouted, his voice echoing against the towering cliffs. The students the ever-enthusiastic adventurers of the group, pumped their fist in the air. “Let’s do this!” I adjusted my backpack, filled with cameras and snacks, while the teachers double-checked their maps.

Our first destination was Yosemite Falls, a cascading wonder that had been the subject of countless photographs and travel blogs. As we hiked along the winding trails, the scent of pine mingled with the crisp morning air. The chatter of birds accompanied us

"Look!” Pip , who was walking beside me exclaimed, pointing to a rock ledge where a group of climbers were scaling the sheer face of El Capitan. “Can you imagine doing that?” She snapped a picture, and the students paused to admire the sheer audacity of the climbers.

As  we continued to walk I found myself gazing at Danton and Meera laughing and flirting . The two of them were perched on a large rock, sunlight casting a golden glow around them as they shared an inside joke that made them both burst into laughter. Every giggle, every gentle shove, felt like a jab to my chest.

“Hey, Laria!” It was Pip coming up beside me with a concerned look on her face. “Are you okay?”

I forced a smile. “Yeah, I’m fine,” I said, though the tremor in my voice betrayed me. “Just enjoying the view.” I gestured vaguely toward the vast landscape, but my eyes remained locked on Danton and Meera.

“They’re being pretty cozy, huh?”

“Yeah,” I  replied, my heart sinking. It hurts to see them perched together like a couple, all playful banter and easy familiarity. Something we never had or so he claimed.

"I heard they're a thing now."

I side eye Pip and ignore her . I know sooner or later she might get suspicious.

......

Danton

The stars twinkled brilliantly above the campsite, casting a silvery glow over the gathered students. The air was filled with laughter, the crackling of the campfire, and the occasional chirp of crickets. In an open circle of logs and blankets, a group of friends sat, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories.

I leaned back against a log, a circle of his friends sprawled around him, their faces illuminated by the flickering firelight.

After some time, I felt a sudden pressure in my stomach. I excused myself and made my way through the dark trees toward the bathrooms, the path lit only by the occasional glowing lantern hanging from low branches. The shadows danced around me, creating a pleasant contrast from the vibrant energy of my friends.

As I approached the bathroom area, the sound of laughter from my friends faded into the background. I rounded a corner and saw a figure illuminated by a dim light. It was Pip, Laria 's friend .

“Hey, Danton,” she said, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Fancy meeting you here.”

“Hey, Pip, it is Pip right?,” I replied, trying to sound casual and she nods. “How's it going?”

“Not bad. Just taking a break from the campfire chaos,” she said with a half-smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “You know how it is.”

I nod awkwardly. I never really spoke to her before .
