When Sam had finally rejoined his brother and Camryn, who had been speaking to Ellen during the time he was away with Madelyn. The eldest Winchester briefly filled his brother in on what was discussed during his brief absence before the youngest Winchester had made a suggestion to arm everyone that was present, while looking for Rufus and Jo at the same time.
This appeared to have caused a bit of tension between the brothers as Dean suggested that him and Camryn would go on the run while Sam stays behind. It was clear to the taller hunter that his older brother didn't trust him enough to be anywhere near or around demons.
Gritting his teeth slightly with irritation, Sam suggested that he'd get the salt and Dean would get the guns, which again resulted in an immediate objection from the sandy haired male - further irritating Sam.
Sam headed into the Quick-Mart at the corner of St. Olaf and Riverside and proceeded to fill a plastic bag with cans of rock salt. The doorbell chimed, and he turned around, only to come face-to-face with two black-eyed demons - one of them holding a baseball bat while the other carried a backpack.
He reached for his gun and drew the attention of the demon, who was collecting bottles of water and soon rushed towards him. The two fought, slamming each other into the shelves before the demon grabbed the hunter by the neck.
The young hunter recited the exorcism passage in Latin and clubbed the demon with a can of rock salt, but it was ultimately knocked out of his hand. He quickly drew our Ruby's knife and stabbed the demon, killing both it and its vessel.
His hazel eyes darted around for the second demon, who jumped out from behind him. Acting swiftly, Sam had stabbed the second demon through the neck. However, his eyes soon fell onto the blood that was on the floor, and that coated the blade.
He turned the blade and watched the dark red liquid trickle down along it before he ran his thumb along it, collecting the blood on his finger as a look of contemplation graced his features.
The door to the Quick-Mart had chimed again, forcing the young hunter to duck and watch the reflection in the nearby mirror; it was Dean, who had just set a few bags down on the floor and called out to him. Sighing in relief, the shaggy haired male stood up just as the sandy haired hunter entered the aisle and saw the demons lying lifeless on the floor as well as the blood dripping off of the demon blade.
The tension between the brothers was still quite thick and heavy upon their return to the church as they had begun demonstrating to the civilians on loading a shotgun.
Releasing a soft sigh, Sam quietly excused himself from the young man and pregnant woman he had been 'training' and secluded himself to a corner, where he had sat down.
Dean had noticed this and made his way over to his little brother. After questioning him about whatever it was that was bothering him, the youngest Winchester revealed that he had felt guilty that he couldn't save the two teenagers that the demons were possessing and how he wished he could save people how he used to instead of killing the vessel.
This, in turn, made Dean question that he meant him saving people by him turning back to his addiction of demon blood. But before he could question his brother further, Ellen had notified the boys that she was going to look for her daughter.
Sam suggested that he'd go with to cover Ellen, to which, to no surprise to the taller hunter, his brother had objected yet again. This resulted in an argument between the two brothers with Sam stating what he knew Dean thought of him, while Dean actually questioned if he had truly relapsed to his addiction.
In a moment of anger, the shaggy haired male had slammed Dean into the wall and cut himself off in mid-sentence before slowly releasing him.
