Chapter 9: Ugly Jealousy

Jake woke up feeling thirsty when he had his drink in the kitchen, he heard laughter in the living room. He saw Aiden and Tom watching a movie together clearly having fun. He got scarred. Tom will like Aiden better than him, filled Jakes head. He knew he was replaceable. He already got replaced once. His anxiety and sadness yielded to his anger and jealousy. How dare Aiden take Tom away from him. Aiden already had everything. He can't let this happen. Jake felt a stab in his heart when Tom removed his mask around Aiden. He couldn't watch any longer and went to his room.

...The next day

Tom gathered his thoughts and mentally reviewed his mission. Riya appeared on the radar of the agency because she moved into Jenson's villa. He was an old enemy of Tom. The agency wanted to make sure she was not involved with him. Making such an obvious move would be stupid of Riya but what if it was intentional. Still Tom couldn't take aggressive measures against her. She might be a civilian.
Though who stabbed him in that villa. Was is Jenson? He escaped some time ago and still hasn't been found. The house was under surveillance but nothing suspicious happened. It could also have been her security guard. Apparently she hired someone after a fan broke into her home.
Tom needed to get closer to her to get some intel and an opportunity to stick close to her. Still the most important thing would be to install listening devices in the house.
Determinate he went downstairs to tell them he needed to get something from home. There he met Aiden pouring some cornflakes in a bowl.

"Good day, Aiden." chirped Tom happily, not noticing Jake at the table, "How did the third film end? You promised to tell me today."

"You really missed something. Let's watch it again." suggested Aiden as he poured in the milk, "The kiss scene was too dramatic to not witness yourself."

"Damn. You know I'm a sucker for that? When do you want to do it?"

"I have time now."

"Oh that would be-" Tom interrupted himself when he noticed Jake in the corner of his eye."

"Hey, Jake!" Tom immediately set next to him like a puppy wanting attention from his owner, ignoring Aiden, "How do you feel?"

"I'm fine." mumbled Jake gritting his teeth.

"What did you say? I couldn't hear you." smiled Tom thinking Jake was just embarrassed because he cried last night.

"I said I'm fine." hissed Jake standing up stomping away.

"Did I... do something?" puzzled Tom really hurt.

"Just classic Jake behavior. You should get used to it. He glared at me since he saw me." answered Aiden chewing on his food, "So wanna watch that movie?"

"I can't I need to get something from home." excused Tom still confused, "How about after?"

"Yeah sure. It's not like I have anything to do these days." answered Aiden still enjoying his snack.

Tom got up and really wanted to go after Jake but he has to put his mission first. Before stepping outside he put on his mask. Now he just had to make it home.

Jake wanted to slap himself. He snapped at Tom. Well Tom ignored him first and he has a right to be angry but still he felt it was wrong. He should apologize but then again... Tom didn't go after him. He should at least care that he is angry at him, shouldn't he? Or didn't he notice? Stubbornly Jake decided to continue to ignore Tom until he would notice but he should see that he ignores him. So Jake went to look for Tom but he only found Aiden on his phone in the living room.

"Where is Tom?" asked Jake aggressively.

"Hello to you too, Jake."

"Urg. Just answer my question, Aiden!" demanded Jake

"And now why would I do that when you're being an ass."

"You're pushing it!"

"You know what no. Up yours Jake. I won't let you treat me like that!"

"Quit being so butthurt about it. I don't treat you that bad."

"Wow, Jake! Now you are pushing it. Are you that self-absorbed that you don't have an ounce of self-awareness?!"

"Me self-absorbed?! Thing always come easy to you, Aiden. I have to look out for myself!"

"Calm down! Both of you." intercepted Conner, "What is going on?"

"I just wanted to know where Tom is." pouted Jake.

"But you were an ass about it!"

"He is right, Jake." Conner talked sternly.

"Then he should just have told me." replied Jake.

"Urgh. Fine he went home for some stuff. Can I go now? I can't spent a second longer with Jake!" Conner sighed, "Fine, Aiden you can go." as soon as Conner said that Aiden went to his room banging the door behind him.

"Jake. Why do you make things so difficult for yourself?"

"Why do you even care?"

"Because you're family, Jake."

"How? I'm a failure!" shouted Jake finally communicating his feelings.

Out of instinct Conner hugged him and affirmed: "You're not a failure, Jake."

The young adult stopped struggling after hearing those words and begun to weep softly.

Tomfinally made it home. The apartment felt so small and empty after spending onlya day at Jake's home. He quickly packed a suit case. Before he went out againhe had an idea and printed something out using one of his gadgets. Now he justneeded to go back... Tom caught himself wanting to think home. He sighed thinkingabout his mother.
