The smoke was so thick, I put my hand up in front of my mask but I could only see it a very short distance in front of me before it disappeared behind the black smoke. Bishop was behind me holding the hose as well, the only thing keeping us together. We were following the directions to where the kitchen is located, we have to follow the edge of the room though to get some sort of bearings.

Finally up ahead an orange glow was coming through the smoke. Once we step through the threshold of the kitchen the smoke lifts to the ceiling and we can see more clearly around us. The fire has spread to different areas in the kitchen, we locate the oven and focus our attention there first as it'll have a gas source.

I pull the lever on the hose back and the water comes out the end at the same speed and amount as a garden hose when it's barely turned on. This is not going to be enough to clear this fire.

Bishop radios through to Goode updating him on the fire and also the need for extra back up. He lets us know he's sending another pair in to join us.

I carry on spraying the fire down as much as possible. I look around to make sure there are no other dangers, like gas canisters, or cleaning chemicals. I can't see anything obvious.

"Bishop, why don't you take a look around. Make sure there's no flammables that I can't see" I privately radio him.

"Ok" he steps away from behind me and starts looking around different obstacles that are obstructing our view.

I can see him from the corner of my eye as he circles around the room, checking all the blind spots. When he's nearly in front of me and his path is cut off by the water flow he looks back towards me and shakes his head.

"Nothing" he says, and starts walking towards me again. Suddenly he stops and his eyes widen. "Scott be-"

Boom!

A bright flash of light fills my vision, followed by something hard crashing down on me. I fall to the ground with the object still on top of me.

"Scott, are you ok?" Bishop asks frantically.

I feel winded and spaced out, I can't work out what just happened. I can't seem to form a reply to him.

"I've got you, you'll be ok" he says reassuringly but I can hear the panic.

The object that was on top of me is lifted off, it wasn't excessively heavy but it was enough weight to feel trapped. Next a pair of hands roll me over, my eyes connect with Bishops.

"Oh thank God you're ok" he lets out a sigh. "Let's get you outside".

Helping me up to my feet he takes one of my arms and drapes it over his shoulders keeping me upright. My legs feel like jelly, it must just be the slight shock.

Bishop guides us both out, heading straight across the room towards the blue flashing lights. It wasn't long before we get out of the smoke and into the clearer outside air. Two paramedics rush over and help us away from the building. They sit us near the evacuation point, helping us take off our masks and passing us oxygen.

"Are you in pain?" The paramedics ask us.

Bishop speaks up "Scott took a light fitting falling on her, check her over".

"It's just my back took a big blow" i respond starting to feel the ache in my back.

"Let me take a look" the paramedic goes behind me removing my coat laying it beside me on the ground. Then she lifts my shirt up, I could feel it pulling away from my body like it was stuck on, that usually means there's blood. "Ok I need to dress it".
