cold winter air swept through the dark hallway, soft hurried footsteps echoing throughout it. the wind from the open windows made a swishing sound in tsukasas ears as he trudged on through the concrete floor towards his dorm.

2:54am. thats how late it was here in japan, the cold winter nights were crisp and frigid, no matter how much you layer youre still a little bit cold. in the morning, you never want to awaken in your warm bed, heated by sleep. but alas, the duties of the day always call, keeping you busy and on your toes.

his shift worked from 6-2:30am, making him get home late almost every day but the weekends. college was until 5, giving him only a hour of rest, mostly doing work.

his overtime sleep deprived him, leaving him overworked and tired most of the time, so he mostly just slept during the weekends.

his roommate though, his best friend.

he had managed to get them a dorm together, where tsukasa did seventy percent of the working, rui did thirty but most of the chores. it was a good deal, and they loved being this close together. they were also in a couple of plays together, extra time to enjoy each others company.

he neared the end of the hallway, the last door reading kamishiro and tenma, 418, their room.

with sluggish hands, he pulled out his keys, reaching into his bag as he rummaged through all of the stuff.

unlocking the door, he quietly shut it behind him before removing his shoes and hanging up his coat and bag. it was warm in the apartment, rui must have turned the heat on. there was only a soft breeze from a cracked window, the moonlight peeking in from the nearly closed curtain.

stupid rui, cant leave this open, all the heat will get out, he thought, going over to close the window, shivering slightly as he was hit with another breeze of wintery air.

he shut it, pulling up his hoodie to his neck, sighing as he squeezed his eyes shut, trying to warm up in the heated apartment. he nearly fell asleep there, surrounded by comfort and the familiar scent of his closest friend.

he let his feet carry him in the way of his bed, blindly stumbling through the dark room, when he bumped into something fluffy and even warmer. his half awake mind made the decision to wrap his hands around the figure, burying his face in the softness of whatever it was.

"hah- tsukasa?" he heard a nervous voice say.

wow, what a nice voice. the vibrations in the persons chest when they talked, and their rapid heartbeat was the only thing he could hear, nuzzling his face deeper into the figure.

tsukasa...

tsu- oh! that was his name, rui calling out to him, confused to why he was halfway wrapped around him, stuck to him like some glue.

as much as his body wanted to reject the action, he pulled himself away from rui, immediately wanting to burrow its way back into the warm sweater he had on. the fabric felt like soft cotton, or a fur of some sort, short but very, very, oh so warm in the cold night, where he could be wrapped in that warmth of rui, and maybe they could sit together for a while.

he murmured a quick sorry before trudging over to his own bed, free of rui, which he never wanted to admit, always wanting him. he climbed into the bed, putting his phone on charge as he saw the outline of rui still standing where they had been, his hand touching the spot on his chest where his head had been.
