"just, get in the car tsukasa."

rui sighed, patting the passenger seat from where he was sitting, holding the wheel. "you can't back out now."

"i don't want to anymore though," tsukasa said, holding his sweatshirt up to his lips. "what if i just stay home?"

rui raised an eyebrow. "toyas gonna be there."

tsukasa got in the car.

the whole way, ruis mixed queue was playing, mitski, to aespa to sir chloe. rui was singing some song with his melodic voice, one tsukasa could get lost in forever.

"and i want a love that falls as fast as a body from a balcony," rui sung out, the unopened window fogging up as he made a turn.

fidgeting with his pant leg, he picked at the denim, too zoned out to the sound of ruis voice to realize that the car had stopped and they were there.

rui parked, getting out of the car and staring expectantly at tsukasa when he didnt follow. shooting him an annoyed glance, he pushed the car door open, swinging his legs over the seat and getting out to join him.

"alright," rui sighed out, grabbing his hand and pulling him along. "lets go, slowpoke."

and god, tsukasas whole world froze around him as his hand sunk into his once again. his heart thrummed and his mind stopped working, he could hear a warm buzz in his ear, blindly stumbling along as he pulled him.

he couldnt hear anything, not when he opened the door to the loud drone of the party, not when he pulled him around to say hi to people he didnt know, not when he pushed him to a wall and tapped on his forehead. the only sound he could hear was the thrum of his heart against his ribs.

he had to force himself to look up, to hear and stare at something else then ruis moving lips and listen.

"wha-what?"

rui smiled, his crooked grin making tsukasas breathing stop for just a moment. "i said, i was gonna go find somewhere more quiet," he said breathily.

he left before he could answer, disappearing into the crowd of people before he could get an answer out.

"okay," he said, even though he had already walked away.

slumping against the wall, his hands crawled up to his ears, trying to block out the obnoxious noise of the party.

it was loud, the noise of people trying to yell, even scream over the music, the all too loud guitar in the song, the bounce of the floor as everyone jumped.

geez, this was college, shouldn't everyone had gotten this loud in high school? maybe even middle school?

looking down at his crossed feet, starting to count the wooden planks. but there was something- someone- a name he heard over his hands clasped against his ears, over the thrum of the music, over everything.

he blinked slowly, a horrible feeling of dread in his chest as he heard a name called.

what?

his eyes started to widen, his heart thrumming again. this time, it wasn't a warm fast beating, more of a frantic rush. geez, why was that name called? why- why did mizuki say that name?

he felt his heart stutter again as the name was repeated, swallowing down a lump in his throat.

a laugh rang out in his ears, a sickening laugh he knew way too well.

far, far, far too well.

oh- oh no, no, no, no, no this isn't right, this couldn't be? but when mizuki said that name, it was that odd pronunciation he liked, and that laugh, oh god- oh fuck, that was his laugh, that was him.
