"Bella, why the fuck are you standing there with a mini cactus?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Luella, language!" Renee snapped, her voice sharp. I rolled my eyes at my mother. I'd never had the best relationship with Renee, partly because Bella had always been the favorite-even with Charlie. It was always "Bella this" and "Bella that." "Do you think Bella will like this?" Honestly, it was getting pretty annoying.
Bella completely disregarded my comment, which somewhat irritated me. Sure, I was a bit jealous of my sister when it came to getting more attention from Mom and Dad, but still, at the end of the day, I loved my sister with all my heart-after all, she was my big sister only by four minutes.
"C'mon, girls, you're going to be late!" Phil called to us. I left Bella to her mini cactus and headed for the taxi. It took Bella a full five minutes to detach herself from Renee. I managed a quick side hug and a simple "goodbye" with our mother.
I kept my luggage with me in the front seat since it was small. I had packed the bare minimum because checking them at customs was expensive. Plus, being the smartest person alive, I had already sent most of my stuff ahead to Dad's house.
The flight to Forks wasn't so bad; I was pretty bored until Bella spilled a whole cup of orange juice on herself. I couldn't help but burst out laughing, knowing she'd have to change in those disgusting airplane bathrooms. The flight wasn't bad in general.
We landed at 5 PM in Port Angeles, and I was annoyed because for a full 30 minutes, I couldn't find my luggage. It wasn't fun at all, since Dad and Bella didn't want to wait for me. After I finally retrieved my bag, things felt even more awkward as we walked toward the car and got in.
After a few painfully long minutes of silence, my father finally said something to Bella. "Your hair's longer."
"I cut it since the last time I saw you," she said.
"Guess it grew back again," he grumbled. I decided to interject, "Well, I cut my hair too." That loosened the tension a little. Dad gave a small nod, but that was all.
He and Bella talked about Renee, about how she was doing. More silence passed until finally we drove past a sign that said:
ᴛʜᴇ ᴄɪᴛʏ ᴏꜰ ꜰᴏʀᴋꜱ ᴡᴇʟᴄᴏᴍᴇꜱ ʏᴏᴜ - ᴘᴏᴘ. 3246.
I guess we were making that 3248.
