𝓛𝓾𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪 𝓡𝓸𝓼𝓮𝓶𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓢𝔀𝓪𝓷

Jasper set Luella's diary down, his emotions churning in turmoil-surprise, confusion, but most of all, fear. Not for himself, but for the girl he had grown to love and hold so dear. His mind whipped through, trying to comprehend it all. Luella was suspicious; she knew too much. And Jasper knew but one thing to do: tell his family. With a leap, he ran home to warn them that Luella was on to their secret.

His family was waiting for him the moment he materialized.

"She suspects something," Jasper said. His voice was even, but his underlying apprehension was apparent.

"I knew you should've stayed away," Edward whispered under his breath. All eyes turned to him. He'd just returned, fresh from Bella's house, a place he most definitely shouldn't have gone. Yet.

"What are you talking about?" Jasper asked, his voice rising, the thicker Texan drawl slipping through.

"I said, you should've stayed away. Now look what's happening-she's going to find out," Edward responded, this time louder.

"Says the boy who snuck into his blood singer's bedroom to watch her sleep!" Jasper snapped, battling to keep the Major, the fierce predator inside him, under control.

"Cease, both of you! The fighting isn't going to benefit anyone," the soft and composed voice of Esme broke into their escalating tensions.

"I didn't mean any har—" he sought to explain himself, but furious words cut off his path again in the person of Rosalie.

"What did he mean 'I didn't mean to harm' - sneaking right into HER BEDROOM? Killed her outright on contact and perhaps letting the humans figure the rest of it out!!.

"I understand that, but—" Edward tried again, only to be cut off again.

"NO, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" Rosalie seethed. "LEAVE HER ALONE! SHE'S NOT YOUR MATE! Jasper had an actual reason to go to Luella, to see if she knew something. And Luella IS. HIS. MATE!" Rosalie would have continued but was cut off by Carlisle's voice.

"Enough!" Carlisle's command silenced the room.

Carlisle looked at Edward in a firm voice, yet somehow calm, saying, "Edward, why did you go sneaking into the room of a blood singer? You could have well killed her."

Edward stuttered, "I. I don't know. I wasn't thinking."

Alice, who had been silent all this while, spoke up now, her mind shut to Edward's probing. "There are only two possible outcomes if you continue seeing Bella: she gets turned or some horrific end awaits the two Swan twins.

The room was heavy in silence. Jasper was so angry, clenching his fist, and only just controlling himself. To think Luella was in danger because of the actions of Edward was a bit too much to bear. Edward was at an impasse, unsure of this deep feeling toward Bella that he could not explain. In his heart, he felt like she was the one he waited for; his mate.

And in that silent moment, Edward made his decision: Bella was to be his-no matter the price.
