Third Person's POV

As the day began, Macey found herself struggling to gather her thoughts and focus. It was already six in the morning, and she was running late in preparing breakfast for her girlfriend, Cally.

Roused from her slumber, Macey hurried to the kitchen to cook a meal for Cally, only to discover her girlfriend was on the verge of leaving the house. Filled with a mix of concern and curiosity, Macey bombarded Cally with a series of questions, "Wait, Cally, why didn't you wake me up? Have you had breakfast? What would you like to eat?"

Annoyed, Cally shot Macey a look and sharply retorted, "Macey, please, just shut up!"

Taken aback, Macey's breathing grew heavy as she stepped back, her eyes reflecting a tinge of fear.

Noticing Macey's sudden change in demeanor, Cally hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I'm sorry, Macey. I didn't mean to yell at you. I'm just under a lot of pressure with an important presentation today. I won't be having breakfast; I've lost my appetite. I have to leave now. Take care of yourself. Bye."

Left standing in the doorway, Macey's lips quivered as her knees shook. Her mother's stern voice echoed in her mind, reminding her of a past warning,

"Macey, I'm telling you, that girl will not give you the life that you deserve! She will just hurt you and eventually leave you!"

Haunted by her mother's words from three years ago, Macey struggled with a whirlwind of emotions, questioning her decisions and wondering, "Could she be right?" She thought. "No, her words are not true." She convinced herself. "Cally won't leave me." She whispered holding her head.

Cally was standing on the other side of the door. Clenching her fist, she whispered in the air, "I'm sorry, Macey." And she sprinted to the bus terminal.

Cally's Workplace

Jade saw Cally walking in the hallway heading to the elevator. "Cally!" She called her.

Cally looked at her and she felt guilty because Jade is Macey's sister. "Good morning, Jade." She greeted.

"Let's go together," Jade said and pulled Cally inside the elevator. "So, how was my sister? We barely talk this past few months." She started to ask.

Cally felt guilty because of what happened earlier before she left their house. "Macey is doing great. She's enjoying being a freelancer because she's in control of her time." She lied.

"That's good to hear. I know that you will take care of my sister very well." Jade stated full of hope.

"Of course, I would never do a thing to hurt her." Cally, for the second time, lied to Jade.

"You should because if you hurt my sister, I swear, even if you are my best friend, I will beat you up until your face can't be recognized anymore," Jade warned her best friend.

Cally felt nervous because of the seriousness of Jade. "Don't worry, Jade." She assured her.

"Lately, I've been dreaming about Macey. She's crying and I don't know why." Jade spoke and looked at her friend. "Cally, you know Macey's story. We've been together since we were kids. Please don't make her cry. She's the only family I have." She said.

Cally gulped but still managed to speak. "I will do everything just to make her feel loved, happy, and secure."

"Thank you, Cally. I'm grateful that she is with you." Jade said and the elevator opened. "Let's go, I know you don't want to be late." She said giggling. Cally didn't utter a word. She just hummed in response.

When they arrived at their office, Samantha welcomed Cally and Jade noticed something.

"Good morning, Cally." Samantha greeted her. "Coffee for you." She handed Cally a cup of her favorite coffee again.

Cally accepted it without hesitation. "Thank you, Sam. You're so generous." She said looking at the coffee.

Samantha smiled and replied, "Anything for you, darling." She winked at Cally and the latter blushed.

Jade watched the interaction between them and spoke, "Hey, Sam. Just a quick reminder for you. Cally is not single. Don't ever dare to flirt with her." She sternly said.

Samantha smirked and said, "I know, Jade."

Jade can sense her behavior. Samantha wants to cross the river even if there's signage telling her not to because it's dangerous. Hence, she just diverted her attention to Cally and whispered, "You promised me Cally. I hope you know how to keep what you said earlier."  The younger just agreed with her. "I'll go to my room. See you around Cally." Jade said and took her leave.

Samantha watched Jade step away. "What's with her? Early in the morning, she's grumpy." She said to Cally about her best friend.

"I don't know," Cally answered and went to her table leaving Samantha alone.

"Hard to get, huh? I love this game." Samantha said, smirking.

Macey's Place

Macey's work is already done. She's now preparing her late lunch in the kitchen. After she cooked her viand, she decided to message Cally and update her on what she was doing despite the coldness in their relationship. But her body suddenly feels strange. She felt dizzy, and her sight became blurry, causing her to lose her balance and fall to her knees.

She tried to call Cally, but she declined the call. "Cally, help me..." She whispered before she passed out.

Cally's Workplace

"Who called you? Why you didn't answer the phone?" Samantha asked looking at Cally's phone. She's in Cally's cubicle again because it's their coffee break.

"Nothing, just a number," Cally said keeping her phone inside the drawer. "By the way, why are you here?" She asked.

"I'm just here to ask if you want to join me at the pantry," Samantha said.

Cally didn't hesitate to say, "Yeah, sure. I'm a bit hungry too." They went to the pantry and ate some bread.

Macey's Place

It was 5:45 in the afternoon when Cally arrived at their home. She didn't have overtime because she wanted to have a long rest.

"Macey, I'm home." She casually said as she walked in but she heard nothing in return.

"Macey!" She yelled a bit. "Maybe she's sleeping." She thought. It was her routine to drink a glass of water every time she came home; therefore, she went to the kitchen.

After she drinks a glass of water, she senses a figure in her peripheral vision, and when she looks at it, she sees Macey lying on the floor.

She hurriedly checked Macey's body if she was still alive. "Macey, wake up." She said, placing the latter in her arms and tapping her face. "You have a high fever." She said and carried Macey to their room.

She tucked Macey into their bed. "What happened? You're burning." She said worriedly and got the things that would help Macey feel better.

Cally went back to the kitchen to make food for them and get medicine. She noticed the unfinished food of her girlfriend earlier. "She didn't even eat her lunch." She said and remembered the time when Macey called her. "Is this why you called me?" She asked herself and felt guilty. She immediately prepares the food and medicine for Macey.

"I'm sorry, Macey..." Cally said, holding Macey's hand. "I'm afraid, Macey..." She whispered.
