Third Person's POV
Cally woke up to the gentle, warm touch of the early morning sun as it seeped through the delicate curtains. She carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to disturb her girlfriend Macey, who was still lost in peaceful slumber. As she made her way to the kitchen, she lovingly prepared a wonderful breakfast, cherishing each moment as she sliced, stirred, and cooked. After meticulously setting the table, Cally made sure everything was in place before she gathered her belongings and double-checked her bag, preparing for the day ahead. Before leaving for work, she quietly slipped back into their room to bid Macey a silent goodbye.
"Macey, I'm off to work now. Please take care of yourself. I love you," Cally whispered as she planted a tender kiss on Macey's forehead. She then left the room without making a sound, ensuring that her girlfriend continued to enjoy her peaceful slumber.
Upon arriving at her workplace, Cally settled into her cubicle, unlocking her computer and taking a moment to appreciate the tranquil ambiance of the office before the day's bustle commenced. She was greeted by Samantha, who wore a warm smile.
"Good morning, Cally," Samantha said.
"Good morning, Sam," Cally replied, her attention still focused on her computer screen.
Samantha noticed Cally's fatigue and approached her, offering to massage her shoulders. "You look exhausted today," she observed.
Cally immediately stood up, facing Samantha. "What are you doing here, Sam?" she asked, her voice tinged with surprise.
"Relax, I just wanted to check on you. You seemed different today, so I thought I'd see if you're okay," Samantha explained.
"I'm fine, Sam. Thank you, but you should go now," Cally responded firmly but politely as she took her seat once more.
Just as Cally was settling back into her work, Samantha unexpectedly embraced her and whispered provocatively in her ear. Before Cally could respond, Jade witnessed the scene.
Cally swiftly disentangled herself from Samantha's embrace and faced Jade, a colleague. "What is it, Jade?" she inquired, trying to maintain composure.
Jade gazed at Cally and then at Samantha, hesitating before saying, "It's nothing," and walking away.
"Jade, it's not what you think," Cally called out, feeling a sense of urgency, as she hurried after Jade, who was making her way to the rooftop, clearly seething with anger.
The tension between them was palpable as Cally reached out, desperately attempting to appeal to Jade. "Jade, please listen to me," she implored, but Jade remained silent, convinced that Cally had betrayed her sister Macey.
"Hey, Jade, what you saw earlier means nothing," Cally began, hoping to explain the situation.
"Tell me the truth, Cally. Are you cheating on my sister?" Jade demanded, her voice resolute and unwavering.
Cally was taken aback. "No, Jade. I would never do that," she asserted, her eyes reflecting deep shock.
Locking eyes with Cally, Jade's gaze was piercing. "Then why are you treating her so poorly? And earlier, you seemed to be acting like a single woman, flirting with Samantha. Tell me the truth, Cally," Jade pressed on, her frustration and hurt evident in her tone.
Cally was caught off guard by Jade's accusations. "What are you talking about?" she exclaimed, bewildered.
Jade maintained a knowing smirk and exclaimed, "I know everything, Cally. Now, tell me, why are you hurting my sister?"
Cally averted her gaze, her voice faltering as she replied, "It's not that simple, Jade. It's complicated."
"You don't love Macey anymore, do you?" Jade's question was direct and loaded with emotion.
Meeting Jade's eyes, Cally returned, emphatically, "No! That's not true!"
"Then why, Cally?" Jade's desperation was evident in her voice.
"I was afraid," Cally confessed, tears beginning to well up. "I'm terrified at the thought of losing Macey," she continued, her voice breaking. "I overheard everything, and Macey knows it. When I heard the news that she had brain cancer and it was terminal, I was paralyzed with fear. I couldn't accept it. I didn't want to witness her suffering or see her die. So I distanced myself from her. I know it's cowardly, but I couldn't bear the thought of watching her go through that. It was the only way I could protect myself from the unbearable pain." Cally said
Jade immediately sprinted towards Cally and gave her a hard slap on the face.
"Good thing, you admitted that you are a coward." Jade sternly said. "You don't want to see her suffer? Then what are you doing now?! Why are you making her suffer even more?! You want to save yourself from unbearable pain but that's not a valid reason to hurt Macey! You aren't saving her; you are dragging her to hell while she's still alive, Cally!" Jade shouted. "She needed you more than anything, especially now. Just like you, she's in pain, she's afraid, and she doesn't want to die. The only motivation she has is you, Cally. You're her greatest inspiration and strength. She wanted to live because of you, but what are you doing? You are slowly killing her inside." Jade uttered. Her tears streaming down her eyes. "She needs you, Cally. Please, stop being a coward and be her strength. Please, stay with her, make her feel loved even more. Stop hurting my sister." Jade sobbed.
Cally hugged her best friend. "I'm sorry, Jade. I was selfish. I'm sorry, I didn't consider Macey's situation and feelings." She said while crying. "I promise, I will make everything right. I will face my fear for her. I'm sorry for what I've done to your sister." Cally said.
Jade wiped her tears and broke the hug."Make sure Cally. You promised before that you will always love her and you will never leave her. Keep your promises." She said.
"I will. Thank you for making me realize my mistake, Jade." Cally said and tapped her best friend's shoulder. "On Sunday, will be our third anniversary. I didn't cancel my reservation at her favorite restaurant. Would you like to help me with my plan?" Cally asked.
"Of course, buddy. You always have me since then." Jade happily said.
"Sunday at 7 pm, we have an event that day, but you know what to do, right?" Cally asked.
"Yes, Cally. I'll handle it." Jade assured her best friend.
"Thank you, Jade. You are indeed the best friend." Cally said and smiled at Jade. "I overtime a lot and work even on weekends just to afford the reservation to that restaurant. Despite what happened, I didn't think of canceling it I don't know why." She added, and they both laughed.
"Well, you are not meant to be apart." Jade simply said.
Unbeknownst to them, someone heard their conversation. "Hmm, Sunday at 7 pm, huh? Interesting event. Let's make it memorable." Samantha said and walked away.
