Week two of the triple header proved to be no less eventful than the first.
As Lando had previously mentioned, he wasn't dealing with the Carolina mess until after the races. Which Oscar wouldn't have made the same move, but he was at least now able to understand the choice seeing as a triple header was always physically and mentally taxing, and the last thing Lando needed was additional drama.
Even though he was shockingly good at creating it.
There was no question which of the McLaren drivers was a bigger nightmare for the PR team. Lando sometimes... lacked a filter, to say the least, especially when he was annoyed. He'd either be too blunt for the cameras, or say something a bit too loud that a nearby microphone picked up on it, or just straight up talk crap at the paddock.
While it was definitely amusing to be a bystander to, Oscar could sense the team's frustration with their elder driver. And of course the recent maiden win would only boost his confidence, even though Oscar had asserted (and still believed) that it was luck he couldn't deny that the first win was special for any driver.
He was also very observant of the increasing stress that Lando seemed to be harboring. He sensed it was due to this rivalry with Verstappen, Lando had never in his career been a real championship contender and this was his first real shot. It was likely the first time the British driver began to see a way that he'd be WDC at the end of the year.
And of course, there was pressure associated with that.
The tension between Oscar and Lando almost... decreased, as the gap between them in the standings increased. Almost. There was plenty of disagreement, plenty of banter much to the dismay of Zak Brown. But he had accepted at that point that his drivers didn't see eye to eye on just about everything and he hoped that time would help them come around.
Oscar didn't understand why Lando was just ignoring the fact that his girlfriend was cheating.
Lando didn't understand why he cared so much.
Oscar didn't understand why Lando was so damn impulsive in everything that he said.
Lando didn't understand why Oscar felt like he had to sound so damn PR trained all the time.
Long story short they didn't understand a lot about each other.
At least they were starting to maybe hate each other less. If it wasn't amicable, there was respect between the two of them. They hadn't had more on track clashes, agreeing that the incident the previous week was not the fault of either driver and Oscar's car had been sorted since then.
The kiss also lingered between them, an event that neither of them forgot but something that they wouldn't dare to bring up. It was certainly an impulsive decision, though for Lando it bothered him less now that he knew he wasn't the only one that had cheated. And the kiss between him and Oscar had been brief, the kiss between Carolina and the anonymous guy was full on making out, and certainly seemed on track to go further. Lando wouldn't even be surprised if it had.
The worst part was, and this was something that Lando would never, ever, admit to anyone, maybe not even himself, was that he liked it.
Maybe the reason he was avoiding the topic the most was that a single kiss with his Formula One teammate of all people made him feel more than marathon sex with his soon to be ex-girlfriend.
That was a problem.
Yes, okay, so maybe he wasn't entirely heterosexual. That was not something he was afraid to admit, he had grown up being taught that love is love and that people shouldn't be treated differently because of their sexuality. His family would be supportive and he had no issues with the fact that he might not be completely straight.
