Lando didn't need to turn around to know who the arms wrapping around him from behind were. Nevertheless he did, craning his head to sneak a kiss from his boyfriend.

"Hi," he murmured, "what are you doing here?"

"Got out of the press conference early," Oscar replied, planting a few soft kisses on Lando's neck. "Miss me?"

"In your dreams," Lando grinned, instinctively tilting his head to allow Oscar more room, not caring about the team members milling around, preparing for the weekend.

Since their announcement, the world had exploded for a few weeks before things had calmed down. Every personality in Formula One had slowly become used to the casual displays of affection, and no one really seemed to mind it all that much.

The only request from the team had been that they keep the affection to a low in the more conservative countries, mostly to protect themselves. And they had readily agreed, knowing it was for their own safety and that the team only wanted the best for them.

"We just have the team debrief now, right?" Lando asked, now resting his head back on Oscar's shoulder. It was so easy like this, being allowed to do this without having to worry about which camera was pointed at them or who may have been tracking their every move.

"Think so," Oscar responded, "the jet lag is killing me."

The entirety of the meeting went exactly as they all did, Lando generally finding a place to sit and Oscar standing directly behind him, either their hands interlocked or a hand in Lando's hair throughout. It had become their little routine, one that neither one of them wanted to give up anytime soon.

It was the final weekend of the 2024 season, and they were so close in points that whoever won the race would win the title. Oscar was only two points ahead, and they had swapped wins and podiums throughout the whole season.

The McLaren drivers had put on a perfect display of clean racing throughout the season. Some incredible overtakes on both sides, but not once since that fateful sprint had they double DNFed, and with their pace and racecraft they had already guaranteed the team the constructors.

As Oscar stepped into the car for qualifying, he knew that for both him and Lando, it was now or never. Granted, Lando had won the championship the previous year, but Oscar being his boyfriend didn't mean he wasn't vying for a second.

He was.

And he  wasn't going to help Oscar the way he had helped Lando in 2023 because Oscar had been out of the running for the title. This year, all bets were off, and both would fight.

They had agreed before the race weekend had begun, of course, that nothing that happened on track would affect them. They'd always go home to each other, that anything could happen and any animosity between them would be left at the circuit.

Because of course there had been tension, and not the good kind.

There had been tension the day Lando made a last lap overtake that almost sent Oscar into the wall. That obviously hadn't been the intention, but there had been a couple cold glances sent Lando's way because Oscar had felt the move had been unsafe.

They had spoken about it as a team, and watched the replays, and settled on it being a legitimate move but that neither of them could risk something like that again.

It was definitely easy to forgive Lando for that after Oscar had edged him relentlessly, releasing his frustrations in a way that he knew Lando would never complain about. It was so much easier to forgive his boyfriend when he was whimpering 'Oscar, please' on repeat in that voice that made the younger absolutely melt.
