As Evie and Liam drove home from the karaoke bar, the vibrant city lights reflected off the windows, painting the interior with a warm glow. The lively energy of the evening lingered between them, a stark contrast to the stress Evie had felt earlier.
She leaned back in her seat, letting out a contented sigh.“I needed this,” Evie said, her voice carrying a genuine tone of relief.
“Thanks for convincing me to come out tonight. I didn’t realize how much I needed a distraction.”
Liam glanced over with a smile. “I’m glad you had a good time. It’s important to unwind every now and then. You seemed to be enjoying yourself.”
Evie laughed softly. “I definitely did. It was a welcome change from everything that’s been going on.”
As they pulled up to Evie’s home, Liam parked the car and turned to her. “Well, I’m glad I could help. I’ll catch up with you soon?”
Evie nodded, opening the car door. “Absolutely. Thanks again, Liam. It was really nice.”
Liam stepped out of the car and walked her to the entrance of the house. They exchanged a friendly goodbye, and Liam waited until Evie had entered the house. Only then did he turn back to his car.
As he drove away, he reached for his phone and dialed a number. The call connected, and Liam’s voice was composed and focused.
“Lacroix, it’s Walker. I wanted to discuss a potential opportunity with you. I have a candidate for an intern position who I believe would be a valuable addition to your team. If you’re willing to consider hiring them, I think we can finalize the business partnership we’ve been talking about.”
Adrien’s voice on the other end was thoughtful.
" I’m listening. What makes this candidate stand out?”
Liam’s tone remained confident and persuasive. “This person has the skills and determination you need. I’ve seen their work, and I’m confident they’ll make a significant impact. It’s a solid chance for us to move forward together.”
Adrien considered the offer, his mind racing through the possibilities. “I’ll need to review their credentials and see if they align with our needs. I’ll get back to you once I’ve had a chance to evaluate them.”
“Fair enough,” Liam responded.
“Just let me know your decision. I think it could be a great move for both of us.”
The call ended, and Adrien leaned back in his chair in his study, the prospect of the new partnership weighing on his mind. The deal could shift the dynamics of his business, and he knew it would require careful consideration.
Back in her bedroom, Evie was unwinding, her mind at ease after a pleasant evening. As she settled into bed and closed her eyes, the memory of the evening replayed in her mind. But instead of focusing on the karaoke or the night’s laughter, she found herself briefly lost in thought about the stranger's striking blue eyes, which seemed to linger in her mind even after the night was over.
Shaking off the distraction, she let herself relax, feeling grateful for the escape from her earlier frustrations. The day’s earlier tensions felt like a distant memory.
