Marshall jerked away from Fionna. "What? Where's the fire?"
"You... your own laws! You can't drink her blood!" Timothy stated.
"Oh. No. I wasn't planning to drain my girlfriend's life right in front of you, Timothy." Marshall pointed out."What was the 'fairytale' anyway?" Fionna asked, deflecting the conversation.
"It's about the first vampire queen." Marshall explained. "Basically, she was only a quarter-vampire, and she united all of us under one name, the Vampire Kingdom. Her name was Caoilliann. And apparently she had this awesome sword that only she could wield."Fionna's eyes widened with interest as Marshall continued. "Anyway, one day she just up and quit her job, abdicating in favor of her advisor who she may or may not have been doing tier 15 with, no one really knows. But she hid her sword, saying that the true heir --her descendant, or the current king or queen-- would be able to find and wield it to cement their place on the throne."
"Why didn't you tell me? I'm all about swords!" Fionna said excitedly, turning to face Marshall.
"It doesn't exist!" Timothy said in the background, but Marshall and Fionna ignored him.
Marshall grinned. "You wanna help me look for it?"
"Heck yeah I do!" Fionna grinned back. "That sounds awesome!"
Marshall chuckled. "I should have known. You're not the kind of girl who wants to go on fancy dress-up dates.""As cute as this is, Marshall has to return to the kingdom before he is forcibly dragged back down there and executed." Timothy said dryly. "And as absence makes the heart grow fonder, you shall be staying up here, Miss...?"
"I don't really have a last name..." Fionna admitted sheepishly.Timothy raised both of his eyebrows while narrowing his eyes simultaneously. "I see."
"Oh my glob, Timothy. Don't be such a snob." Marshall groaned.
"Tell me, Miss Fionna, what is your official title?"
"Timothy, you don't even care about that stuff!""But others do. It might be best to nip this in the bud if there is a conflict of interest."
Fionna looked worried. "It's 'Fionna the Human' or 'Fionna the Heroine'. I'm not... I'm not royalty."
Timothy was silent for a minute, before looking at Marshall. "If you don't handle this properly, this could be the biggest scandal we've seen in a long time. I daresay Caerwyn will be jealous of how much you would have exceeded his reputation for troublemaking."Marshall glared at him, and Fionna looked apprehensive. Timothy moved towards the door. "However, if handled correctly... well, I'm not one to talk. My mother was a housemaid before she met my father."
Then he dug something out of one of his coat pockets and tossed it to Marshall. "Let's call that... 'Scandal Prevention System 2'."Marshall flushed. "We're not doing anything like that!"
"Not yet." Timothy agreed. "But soon, probably."
"Why do you even have this?! It's not like you would use it!"
Timothy stopped suddenly, before sighing. "You know full well I'm friends with Caerwyn Moreland, who I'm fairly certain is actually addicted to the act of coitus by now. So obviously I carry them around. Imagine the fallout if I didn't. Your Majesty, you have until 5pm before Annie and I organize the Royal Guard into forcing you down to rule."With that, he nodded his goodbye and left.
"What did he give you?" Fionna asked curiously.
Marshall shoved whatever-it-was deep in his pockets. "It's not... it's not important. It's for tier 15, and we're not going to do that anytime soon, so let's just go over our plan to find the sword. I'll leave at 4:55, it'll be okay."He moved away a little as she tried to peer around him. "What do you mean...?"
"Let's just leave it alone." He said hurriedly.
"Well... okay. Do you want me to come down with you?"
"No!" He said hurriedly, before recoiling at the hurt expression on her face. "Oh, Fi...""Why not?" She asked. "You let me go to the Nightosphere--"
"This is different." He interrupted. "The vampires haven't tasted human blood in years."
"But Timothy said you passed a law preventing them from drinking human blood." Fionna pointed out.
"That's not going to stop them! I don't have that much control, Fionna! I can barely keep myself alive, let alone you! And the Nightosphere demons are too scared to do anything that might piss me or my mom off, but the vampires are much older, and meaner, and probably smarter.""So? I can handle that!" Fionna argued. "I beat you, after all!"
Marshall glared at her. "That was different! I wasn't actively trying to knock you unconscious so I could drink your blood while it was still fresh! I just wanted a friendly fight!"
"Marshall, I handle stuff like this every day!"
"No! This is different, and I don't want your blood on my hands, or in my subjects' mouths...!""Why can't you just believe I can do this?!" Fionna demanded.
"Because if you're wrong, I'm going to lose you before I even had a chance to have you!"
"Have... me...?" Fionna repeated. "You don't own me, Marshall."He nodded, before taking her hands in his. "I know, I know... but you're mine, and I'm yours, and I don't want to lose that before its even begun. But... if you're adamant... I have a solution."
"Really? What?"
"I turn you." He answered, pulling her closer, a strange smile spreading across his face. "I make you a vampire, just like me, and then we avoid all the oncoming problems like dhampyrs and you dying horribly, and all that other stuff."She pulled away from him, before moving backwards. "Marshall... maybe one day you can bite me, but not today."
The smile faded from his face. "Fine. But if I can't bite you, no one else can, so you're not going down there."
She nodded once. "Fine."He looked up at the clock on the wall. "Alright, I don't have much time... bye, Fi. You plan it out for me while I'm gone, okay?"
"Okay. Bye, Marshall. I'll see you soon."
He smiled, before kissing her gently. "See you in a month, Fi. It'll be gone before you know it."
