When Marshall returned from the underworld, it was to a dark and empty house. He frowned slightly. No one was there... but from the looks of things, someone had been rifling through his documents. Everything looked to be in place, so he slung his bass over his shoulder and took off.
Playing softly, he made his way over to Fionna's house, tapping on her window. He frowned as she didn't appear soon, and sat on the roof, waiting for her to return.
Soon enough, she and Cake came back, and he popped up behind her as Cake unlocked the door.
"Boo!" He grinned.
Cake jumped a little, but Fionna turned and hugged him. "You're back!"
"Yeah, I could say the same to you. Where were you guys?""Oh, Gumball needed something." Fionna replied as Cake went inside.
"Yeah? Well, next time he needs something, tell him you're mine." Marshall muttered, before pulling her into a long kiss.
She laughed, leaning against him. "It wasn't like that... also, I think he really likes the fact that we're together.""Everyone should. We're amazing together. The bad boy and the good girl. The vampire and the human. The musician and the hero--"
She cut him off with a kiss. "Stop talking about how great we are and kiss me."
He smirked. "I can do that. I can definitely do that."As they broke away again, he asked, "So, do you just wanna stand here and make out, or do you want to go look at the stars with me or something?"
She grinned. "Sure. We just have to be back soon, or Cake will worry."
"C'mon, Fi. The cat doesn't run your life."
"I also have to take my sleeping pills..."He blinked at her. "Sleeping pills? The hell do you need sleeping pills for?"
"The nightmares came back." She sighed. "It's the only way I can sleep."
He stared at her for a minute, before pulling out her lullaby. "What about this?"
"There it is! We went looking for it so we could have a recording." Fionna explained.Marshall smiled. "I'll give you a live performance tonight, and then I'll make a recording for you, okay? That should help with the nightmares, right?"
She nodded. "If it works again. Thank you, Marshall."
"No problem, Fi. Anyway, c'mon. Let's go see if we can find a shooting star."He grabbed her hand and they took off, back to the forest where she found him over a month ago.
"Wow, they look really good tonight." Fionna noted.
Marshall smiled softly. "Not as good as you."
Fionna laughed. "You're so corny, Marshall."
He smirked. "Yeah? Well, you like me anyway, so I'd say it's working.""Well... yeah, it is. But that doesn't make it any less corny." Fionna grinned back, kissing him gently.
"Yeah, I guess. So what's new with you? Gone on any amazing adventures lately?"
"Eh... not really. Oh, wait! Cake and I found this new dungeon, and it had so many monsters and it was awesome!"
"What did you get at the end?" Marshall inquired."We got a map." Fionna replied readily.
"A map?" Marshall repeated, surprised.
Fionna nodded enthusiastically. "So the adventure's going to continue! And if the monsters from the last dungeon were anything, wherever the map leads is going to be algebraic! You wanna come?""Sure. When are you guys going?" Marshall asked.
Fionna shrugged. "Whenever we're not doing anything."
Marshall laughed. "I think my schedule's open that day."
"Good, it's a date then."
"...Fionna?""Hmm?"
"Is this a date?" Marshall asked. "Or... have we not gone out on any dates since we started going out? Or ever?"
"I don't know. I guess it is. What do people do on dates besides go places and spend time together?"Marshall shrugged. "You pretty much just summed it up. So, yeah, I guess this kind of is a date."
She turned around and leaned against him, closing her eyes slightly. "So what did you do while you were gone?"
"Oh my glob it was so incredibly boring." Marshall groaned. "It was meeting after meeting after meeting and I had to listen to wads and dillweeds the entire time and the meetings weren't even interesting, they were about stuff like economics and stuff like that.""Wow." Fionna said. "That doesn't sound like you at all."
"I know. Which is one of the reasons I don't like to hang out down there." Marshall huffed. "Besides the fact that I have to leave you up here."
"Aw. But you didn't like hanging out down there even before we started dating." Fionna pointed out.Marshall rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Sh. I'm trying to be cute here."
Fionna chuckled. "I see. It's working, though."
"Excellent. My master plan is working. Soon I'll get you to marry me." Marshall teased.
"As long as I don't have to wear a dress, it'll be fine." Fionna grinned, looking up at him.Marshall burst out laughing. "That's the only problem you have with marrying me? A dress? Fi, if we were really going to do it,you could show up in your usual clothes covered in the blood of a monster and I wouldn't give a bat's butt about it."
Fionna smiled and leaned against him. "It's not like you'd need to dress up either."
"Yep. Neither of us are super fancy. But... can we not get married in a super dangerous dungeon?"Fionna laughed. "I think that can be arranged."
Marshall rested his head on top of hers. "Hey, it's kind of late... do you want to stay at my house tonight?"
Fionna moved away slightly. "Uh..."
"Not like tier 15." Marshall said hurriedly. "Just sleeping in the same bed without doing any... tier stuff.""Just sleeping?" Fionna repeated.
"Just sleeping." Marshall confirmed.
"Then I guess that'd be okay..." She said warily. He took her home quickly, handing her one of his shirts to wear. "You can change in the bathroom."
"Okay. Hey, don't forget to play me the lullaby, okay?"
"I won't." He promised.
