OUR FLOWERS

i didn't know what day it was. i just knew i was alone and the bathroom started to smell. i refused to leave the bedroom. i hadn't eaten. i hadn't looked in the mirror. i couldn't do anything but worry and trip off of cough medicine again. it's a good thing to have when there's nothing to help you sleep. i drank the whole bottle over the passing days and
i wondered what would be left for me to do if he didn't come back. i would never sleep again right?

he always had a funny way of getting to me.

he liked to talk to me. even when he wasn't there. but he was. he never left.

"hey," he said knocking on the closet door. he was leaning against the doorway. he was clean shaven and wearing a suit. i had never seen him like this. "don't you think you should get dressed?" he took a bite of a green apple nonchalantly.

my eyes widen. "w-what?" i stuttered looking around. i stumbled forward.

"get ready for the wedding?" he questioned furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "i know it's bad luck, but you don't even have your dress on yet."

i shakily stand to my feet laughing while tears prickled in my eyes. "right," i smile and nod. i let out a shaky sigh and wipe my hands off on my long t-shirt. "what should i wear eli?" i asked running my hands across the clothes in the closet.

he shrugged and kept eating. "you pick," his words were muffled.

"you're no help," i punched his shoulder and started to shuffled through the clothes on the hangers.

i didn't find anything white, but i did find a beautiful black dress. it was short and fitted. i slipped it on and it zipped perfectly.

he covered his eyes and peeked through his fingers, still holding the apple. "you are beautiful sid," he smiles pulling me close to his chest. i buried my face into it. his warmth.

"so are you," i breathed out. "i'm ready to go," i said suddenly, looking up at him. he had this easy going expression. he nodded and pushed open the door. we stepped over all the things meant to barricade it, and then he saw the way i pushed the bed and dresser in front of the bedroom door.

"you must've been really scared huh?" he questioned. i helped him push the dresser and the bed out of the way with a nod. he didn't question me any further.

he grunted as he moved things out of the way. so did i. everything was heavier than i remember. i couldn't remember the last time i had water or food. but i suddenly felt strong next to him.

"did you get food?" i asked him. we went down the carpeted stairs.

he nodded lighting a cigarette. "there will be plenty of food at the wedding."

i nodded. "but the comet?" i asked him suddenly remembering about our fate.

he shrugged. "the comet is gone," he mumbled taking a puff. "you want some?" he passed me a cigarette and a lighter. i held the package in my hands tightly and tears prickled in my eyes.

i couldn't figure out why. i just clutched onto his lighter and cigarettes. we stepped into the living room. i looked out of the window and there were people walking their dogs and watering the grass like normal.
