Meanwhile, Maya feigned thoughtfulness, tapping her chin with her finger. "Hmm, well, I could go for some sushi," she suggested. "But there's no guarantee I won't eat it all myself."

Finneas chuckled at Maya's comment, shaking his head fondly. "Of course, you'd pick the most expensive option on the menu."

"Hey, if you're paying the bill, I'm not complaining," Maya replied with a cheeky grin, winking at Finneas.

With a hint of laughter in my voice, I placed the order for sushi, knowing it would please Maya. But I also remembered Billie's allergies to seafood, so I quickly ordered her favorite childhood comfort food as well.

"I've got the sushi and... I got you ramen and burritos, Billie," I said, turning to her with a warm smile, knowing that it was her go-to childhood comfort food whenever she was feeling down.

Billie's eyes widened slightly at my addition to the order, her expression shifting to a mix of surprise and gratefulness. "Ramen and burritos?" she repeated, her usual cool demeanor momentarily faltering. "Seriously?"

"Yup," I confirmed, a mischievous grin playing on my lips. "I know how much you love them, and I figured you could use a little nostalgia tonight."

She tried to maintain her stoic expression, but a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. "You remembered," she said softly, the hint of vulnerability in her voice betraying her tough facade.

The simple act of me adding her favorite childhood comfort food to the order seemed to touch her. Without a word, Billie stepped forward and embraced me in a tight, appreciative hug, her arms encircling my waist.

"Thanks," she mumbled, her voice muffled against my shoulder. The gratitude in her tone betrayed the emotional wall she had been trying to maintain throughout the evening.

I laughed softly at her sudden display of affection, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. We broke the hug, but before I could say anything, Billie leaned in and planted a quick but affectionate kiss on my lips.

Rawr 😏

"You always know how to make me feel special," Billie murmured, a tender smile playing on her lips.

I smiled back, my heart swelling with affection. Despite our weird relationship, moments like this reminded me that beneath the complexities, our bond remained strong. Even if we separated for a year..or two..😁

We continued our playful exchange, the mood in the room becoming lighter. Finneas and Maya watched us with knowing smiles, their eyes darting between the two of us, clearly noticing the shift in our interaction.

Billie, always fond of physicality and closeness, took the opportunity to pull me onto her lap. Her arms wrapped around my waist, keeping me firmly in place on her thighs.

We all settled around the coffee table, digging into the feast before us. Maya, ever the impatient one, couldn't wait to dive into the sushi. She grabbed a roll, dipping it into soy sauce with a satisfied smile.

Finneas chuckled at her eagerness, shaking his head in amusement. "I swear, you're like a vacuum cleaner when it comes to food, Maya."

"Hey, I can't help it if I'm hungry," Maya replied with a full mouth, her words slightly muffled by the sushi. "Besides, it's not like any of you are gonna eat all of this."

I chuckled, knowing Maya's appetite was legendary. She could eat like a horse, yet remain petite and slender. It was an unfair advantage, but we all secretly envied her for it.

As we ate, I couldn't help but notice Billie's lack of appetite. She picked at her plate, barely eating anything. Concerned, I decided to try and coax her to eat. I scooped up a bite of nuggies and held it to her lips.

"Open up, Billie," I instructed gently, gesturing with the food. "You need to eat something."

Billie tried to protest, but I knew she couldn't resist my insistence. With a small sigh, she opened her mouth, allowing me to feed her.

I placed the food in her mouth, watching as she slowly chewed and swallowed. I continued feeding her, making sure she at least had something in her stomach.

Time skip

After finishing our meals, we all sprawled on the couches in the living area, feeling full and satisfied. Finneas and Maya were engaged in a heated debate about a recent movie they had seen, while Billie and I sat silently side by side, our shoulders touching.

The atmosphere was relaxed, yet there was a tension underneath the surface. It was palpable in the way Billie's knee kept bouncing up and down, a nervous tick she had been suppressing all evening.

I glanced at her out of the corner of my eye, noticing the subtle signs of her unease. She tried to mask it with a neutral expression, but I could read her like a book. Something was weighing on her mind, something she was hesitant to share.

I moved slightly closer to her, our thighs just barely touching. "Hey," I whispered, keeping my voice low enough so that only she could hear me. "You okay?"

Billie's knee stopped bouncing momentarily, but she didn't look at me. She let out a soft sigh, her shoulders dropping slightly. "Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, her voice betraying her true feelings.

Sensing that Billie wasn't ready to open up about whatever was troubling her in front of Finneas and Maya, I decided to discreetly remove us from the situation. I stood up from the couch, offering my hand to Billie. "C'mon," I said quietly. "I need to talk to you."
