I can tell by Lauren's face that something's wrong. She isn't talking, just staring out the window. Was something in the notes that I didn't realize? "Lauren? Talk to me, please."
She looks at me, then at my family. "Can I talk to Jess, alone?" They nod and leave the room.
She brings the notes to me. "Tell me they're not the same handwriting, please." I look at the notes and realize the same thing as she did. My suspicions were answered.
Oh my god. Joe is my stalker? Joe is obsessed with me? He threatened his own sister! And his best friend? What the actual fuck?
I'm shocked as I realize this and can feel Lauren's eyes on me. I know she knows I know.
Memories wash over me. How he acted at the diner the other week, how he stares at me now. Everything starts adding up in my brain.
"It's Joe?" I ask her.
"I think so. I'm in disbelief as well."
"He's been so close to me."
An even bigger shock hits me. Henry. Joe killed Henry, or at least kidnapped him. It makes so much sense on why he was against us going to the police. He's the one that took him.
"Henry.. he's the one that took Henry. Oh my god. What if he killed him? Lauren, I'm scared."
She takes my hands in hers. "I know, Jess. I'm scared too. I don't know what to do. I don't know where we go from here."
Where do we go from here? Do we confront Joe? Do we just ignore it and just try to avoid Joe? Surely, he wouldn't actually hurt or kill his own sister. What if he goes after Nick? What if he goes after someone else?
So many thoughts go through my brain. I just don't know what to do. The fact that Lauren doesn't even know what to do either scares me equally as bad.
