The 72 hour hold is finally over. Jess can finally come home. Although, they seem to be hiding something. They won't tell us what's going on.Joe is waiting with me, but I still want to hurt him for not being there for my sister.
Finally, the girls walk out with my mom. Mom put me with the responsibility of bringing the car around so they wouldn't have to walk far in Jessica's condition. She's still weak, but they can't hold her past 72 hours with a suicide attempt. She is doing a lot better.
When the girls lay eyes on Joe, who is standing beside me, their demeanor changes and they look away from him. I gave them a weird look, but they kept walking to the car and got in. Joe took the passenger seat and mom got in the back with the girls.
We listened to whatever the radio was playing. 'Smells like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana came on and we all started singing along to it. It was one of our favorite song to jam out to. Jess sat in the middle so I got to see her dancing in the rear view mirror. It was an amazing sight to see and I missed it a lot.
Once we were home, the four of us all hung out. They wouldn't really look at or even really talk to Joe. When they had to, it was short responses. I thought that Lauren was still upset at him for what he said at the hospital. She probably informed Jess about what happened as well, so she's upset too. They've always had each other's backs and always took each other's sides. They're two peas in a pod. If they were the last two people in the world after an apocalypse happening, they'd still be happy. Because even though the world is shit, they always have each other.
Joe and I used to have a bond similar to that, but we've grown apart and I'm still mad at him for blaming his little sister for what happened with Jess. Maybe I would do the same if the roles were reversed, but I really don't want to find out.
"So, does anyone feel up for the movies?" I ask, looking around at everyone.
"I really want to be home, since I haven't been home in a few days. Is that okay if we just watch a movie here?" Jess replies.
"Yeah, that's fine, sis. Whatever you want." I smile at her. She nods. "So what movie should we watch?"
"Oh! How about a scary one?" Lauren perks up.
"Yes! I heard about one before I went into the hospital. Someone on the team mentioned it. It's called SCREAM." Jess says. Lauren nods.
"Yeah, I heard about that one, too. Nick, can we rent it, please?"
"Yeah, we can. Joe and I can go rent it real quick." Joe gives me a look of 'did you really just say that?', but I ignore it and tell him to get a move on and let's go. He stands up and walks out with me.
I start the car and we go to the nearest Block Busters to rent the movie Jess and Lauren wanted. Might rent another one just in case. A funny one for after, because I know the girls are gonna get scared.
