unpack my love instead

It was as clear as day. The scorching sun heating up the land that us beings walked on. It's a shame the AC still is a work in progress after moving in the new house recently. Jennie could only wipe the sweat off her forehead after unboxing some of her stuff.

She glanced at her watch, it was 4:13 PM on the dot and she still had no idea where in the world her wife could be.

She should've been here 30 minutes ago, helping her unpack. Yet she disappeared, strange.

Jennie shrugged and decided not to dwell on it further. She instead grabbed another box and picked it up with such little strength she had left onto the kitchen counter, opening up and started to unpack the dishes of plates and utensils.

It was until a very loud knock that almost made Jennie drop one of her plates. She gasped loudly and immediately put her hand on her heart, calming herself from the strange and very rude surprise.

She sets down the plate and walks to the front door, cautiously. It's probably one of those obnoxious neighbors in the town.

Peeking through the small peep hole to check who was outside and behold,

It was Rosé, her wife. Who's apparently struggling to unlock the door with the key. A look of a mix between concentration and frustration apparent on her pretty face, Jennie thinks.

Jennie unlocks the door for her to end her suffering, surprising Rosé.

"Oh. Um, hi baby." Rosé looks down embarrassed, putting her keys back into her pocket, "I got dinner." She lifts up the bag of chinese takeout in front of her.

There was a moment of awkward silence as Rosé lowers the bag and stares at Jennie for quite a bit, until she heard a little laugh and a kiss pressed onto her cheek.

"So that was keeping you away for so long." She smiles, taking the takeout from the others hand and walking back into the house.

"I was just making sure we won't starve." She shrugged, following her wife back in the house.

"You always make sure we won't starve." Jennie makes a snarky little comment, taking down the boxes that crowds the counter and placing the food on top, beginning to unpack the food.

"Is that your way of saying I gained weight?" She leans her chin against Jennie's shoulder, watching her put the food onto the plates.

"No. And even if you did, I'd still love you anyway."

"I know." Rosé smiles in appreciation.

Jennie then hands her a plate filled with a to of food and walked over to the living room. Fortunately, they had their couch, still very much crowded with boxes and other furniture but at least had a sitting area.

She follows her to the couch, plopping on it before immediately stuffing food into her mouth.

"Hey! No staining the couch." Her shoulder was nudged as a warning, pouting before slowly slowing down her chewing.

"You didn't care about that last night." She whispered to herself.

"Don't make me take back your food."

Rosé pouts again.

"You know, I'm really excited for the future." She drops her fork onto her plate to turn to Jennie. "I know I say it a lot but I'm glad you're here with me."

She too drops her fork. "Rosie, we're literally married. I don't have a choice."

Rosé stares back at her, unamused. "Okay jeez, sorry for trying to be sentimental—"

"And even if I did, I'd still choose you. It will always be you."

Jennie takes her hand and kisses it, before leaning in to steal a quick kiss from her lips instead. "I love you. In every and all the ways I can. I love you, Rosie."

She grins. "I love you too." She says as she kisses back. Pulling back before scooping a bit of fried rice and stuffing it in Jennie's mouth. "Now eat, I don't want to cry all over good food." They both laugh before finishing up their dinner, sinking in the good presence of each other.
