'I am sorry but Mrs. Malfoy has lost it.' The Healer told Snape at the hospital. 'The Cruciatus Curse was aimed at the head and the pain was too much for her to handle.'
In short, she'd become insane, mad. Snape nodded in acceptance. 'And the boy?'
'He is stable, sir.' The Healer said.
Relief washed over Snape. He nodded at the Healer in understanding and the Healer walked away.
Snape moved out of the hospital and Disapparated home. Once home, he went to his room and got himself to thought.
But how did it happen? What could have come into Lucius Malfoy to make him go on such a rampage like that? Attacking his family and putting them all under pain. Putting his wife into insanity? Attacking the poor Malfoy heir?
Snape had put Lucius in Azkaban ans had forced the Azkaban guards to remain quiet about it. Word about this need not to be leaked just yet.
Draco Malfoy was now an orphan. Who would take care of him? Most certainly not him Snape. He had zero tolerance on tantums. And Draco was a tantrum kid.
Not, it was not like Snape did not want to take Draco in. He, Snape, was not a parent figure. Sure he was Draco's godfather and he did a good job at it but here was the case keeping Draco permanently in his home was the problem. He'd die from Draco's usual adolescent behaviors and others.
No, Draco did not need Snape.
Or Blaise Zabini. Draco and the other boy were very close.
Snape shook his head in disagreement. The boy's family was always on the move, always in the spotlight. Draco would find it difficult to be on the move and in the spotlight.
The Notts were out of the question. They were too dark and did not care about anything. Neither did the Goyles or Crabbes.
Snape honestly had no other option. And this frightened him. Draco would be discharged two days later and there was no way Snape would let Draco live in the manor alone with the house elves. So who will take the place of parents for Draco Malfoy?
Then the idea snapped into his head. The idea was a dangerous one. It was one that was never done. Snape hated the idea more than anything but that idea was the only option. For Draco's sake it had to be done.*****
'Welcome, welcome, Severus.' Dumbledore said serenely.
Severus nodded and sat down in the armchair across from the headmaster.
They were not in the headmaster's office at Hogwarts but in Dumbledore's home.
'We have something to discuss.' Snape told him. Then he told Dumbledore all that happened the other night at the Malfoys.
When Snape was done, Dumbledore nodded. 'So what do you propose?'
Snape hesitated for a moment. Then he said, 'I want Draco...to live...with...the Potters.'
Dumbledore's brows went up in surprise. 'You want the Malfoy boy...to live with the Potters?'
Snape nodded.
'Severus, have you thought of this well. You know of the hatred that lives in between Draco and Harry.'
'I know but that does not mean Draco has to suffer because of some hatred he has for Potter.' Snape said.
Dumbledore was greatly surprised. 'Where is this coming from?'
But Snape was not prepared for Dumbledore to come and judge him. 'Dumbledore, just speak to the Potters on my behalf. No, speak to Lily. She will understand this. For Draco's sake.'
What did Dumbledore think of this? He had no problem with this. After all, Harry and Draco hated themselves with their beings. It is time to see if the two arch-nemesis would come together as a united duo. And it will be good in so many ways, for everybody's benefit.
'I will do it.' Dumbledore said to him.
Snape nodded in gratitude.
