'You.' Draco and Harry said in unison, both in shock.
'Who is it, Harry?' James' voice came from the inside. Then the father appeared at the door. James' eyes widened behind his glasses.
'What is this? What are you doing here?' James asked Snape.
Snape answered, 'I do not answer to to you, Potter. Now if you will excuse me -'
'As you can see I am the owner of this mansion,' James smiled smugly at Snape.
The Potters Manor, of course, Draco thought. This is Potter's house. Draco suddenly felt a swinge of jealousy, for the Potters were the richest people in the wizarding world and the Malfoys being the next.
Then a red haired woman appeared at the door, a bright smile on her face. 'Hi. Come in.' And she pushed the door open wider.
'Hold up,' Draco asked before they could enter. 'What are we doing here?'
'We will explain but inside.' Snape said with gritted teeth. Then he filed in. Draco then filed in as well.
The Potters alsi walked into the manor and Lily closed the door.
Draco was impressee by the manor. Everything was beautiful and nice, with the spiral stairs and the large hall and lights. This place felt...homey. The exact opposite of his own home.
The living room was very huge, with three big sofas and a centre table.
James and Harry sat in one sofa that was further away from Snape and Malfoy.
'Okay,' Lily said, stepping foward. 'So, the thing is...well, Dumbledore and Snape spoke to me yesterday. And it was concerning Draco Malfoy.'
Draco's brows pulled together. 'What do you mean?'
Lily turned to Draco. 'Draco, I know what happened, and it was tragic and I am sorry.'
Harry suddenly got curious. What happened? What did his mother mean by what she said?
Draco, on the other hand, was fuming in annoyance. Why dif Snape tell this...this...non-magic woman about something that was very personal?
'And therefore Dumbledore and Snape came with this petition that, since it is only you and you have no one else...?'
Draco understood before she could finish. He rose to his feet. 'No!'
Lily was not surprised and expected this. 'Draco -'
'I said no.' Then he rounded at Snape. 'How dare you? What do you take me for?'
Snape turned to the boy. 'You have no choice, Draco.'
'What is going on, Lily?' James asked his wife.
'Draco Malfoy...will...be,' Lily took a deep breath. 'Draco Malfoy will be staying with us.'
'What?' Harry and James exclaimed, also getting up on their feet.
'Do you mean -?' James started.
'Yes,' Lily nodded. 'This is the guest.'
'No,' Draco intoned. 'I am not staying here.'
'You are staying here and that's final.' Snape added.
'On whose watch?' James asked. Then he turned to Lily. 'Lily, he is not staying here.'
Lily realized she'd made a mistake not talking to James first. She nodded at James and said, 'The kitchen, please?'
Lily led James to the kitchen. Once they entered she tapped the door with a wand, casting a Silence Charm.
'James -'
'How could you?' James said, his tone harsh. 'He is a Malfoy. Lucius Malfoy's son. Come on.'
'James, he needs our help.' Lily said loudly.
'What help does he want? Huh? That you and Snivellus -'
'Severus, James. Not Snivellus.' Lily interrupted. 'And like I said, Draco needs our help. Two days ago he and his mother suffered under the Cruciatus Curse cast upon them by Lucius.'
Now James became speechless. 'What?'
'Yes.' Lily nodded. 'And now he has nowhere and no one to turn to. Snape thought it a good idea to have him stay with us.'
'And you accepted? Lily, he is Lucius' son.' James said to her.
'You do not judge a book by its cover, James. I used to do that about you and look how you turned out.'
Now James was stunned. Then ashamed.
'You may never know. Maybe he is not that arrogant kid everyone else makes him to be. And he is hurting. He may think he doesn't need us but he really does.' Lily continued.
'What of the Zabinis?' James asked.
'If they were an option Snape would not have brought him here.' Lily told him. 'James, please.'
James now felt awful, even though he didn't like this decision. 'What about Harry?'
'He may not understand now but I promise with more time with Draco, they will become partners. Friends even.' Lily said hopefully.
'I doubt it.' James stated. 'Alright, fine. As long as this will get Sni - Snape out of this house, I'm will agree.'
Lily wrapped her arms around James and kissed him. James kissed her back. They pulled apart and Lily whispered, 'Thank you.'
'You're welcome, darling.' James said. 'Well, time to break the news to Harry.'
The duo went back to the living room. The atmosphere was that of tension, heated and charged, as Harry and Draco glared at each other with hate. When James saw this he realized this was the same hated look himself and Snape gave to each other.
'Okay,' James said, stepping foward. 'Well -'
'Dad, he is not staying here.' Harry snapped.
'Watch your tone, young man.' Lily snapped back.
'Why should he stay here? He has his own family.' Harry said, outraged.
'Potter, I suggest you keep your mouth out of conversations meant for the adults.' Snape retorted.
'Oh no you don't, Snape. He is invited into this conversation as much as that boy.' James pointed at Draco Malfoy.
'Well then, I will not live here. Severus, I'd rather be on the streets than here.'
'In fact, that's a better option seeing as it suits you well.' Harry said to Draco.
The words hurt Draco slightly but he fired back. 'I belong on the streets? How do you feel - proud? - that this,' he waved his hand at Lily in disgust, 'thing is your mother?'
This passed through all three males like a spear.
'How dare you?' James exploded and he moved towards the boy but Lily pulled him back.
Harry was red and shaking with anger. He was about to jump at the blonde haired boy but Lily was quick. She drew her wand and created a barrier spell in between himself and Draco.
Harry realized the shield and froze. Draco, on the other side, smirked. This infuriated Harry even more.
'Listen to me, none of you have the power or a say in the matter at hand. And therefore, you have to cooperate and understand whatever we tell you.' Lily said, her tone stern. 'Draco Malfoy, you are staying in this house with us.'
'No.' Harry and Draco shrieked.
'And Harry,' James added, 'that's final.'
Harry and Draco realized they didn't have a say in the matter and that they were stuck.
'For how long will I stay here?' Draco asked Snape.
'As long as possible.' Snape stated. Then he rose to his feet. 'I will be leaving now.'
'Of course. I will see you out.' Lily said. 'Harry, take Draco to his room.' And with that the three adults left for outside, leaving only the two teenagers in the hall.
Harry turned to Draco Malfoy. 'I don't know what you and Snape are planning, or what you want, but it won't work. Remember, though, that you are in my house and I am the boss.'
Draco didn't talk. Mainly because he did not want to entertain Harry. He hated this just as much as Potter did.
But...
But Draco had no choice, no matter how much he tried to think of another option. This was the best. He'd just have to tolerate the stupid boy. But if he did cross his line, Draco would make sure Potter collected his end of the pain as well.
He was just staying with him, not be his friend. As if that will ever happen.
