"Are you certain of this," said the Renegade.
"There is no doubt," said his granddaughter, Susan. "We must move quickly or the New Temporal Alliance and the Earth with be lost."
They were in the meeting hall on Phaidon. All the leaders of the various NTA species were there.
"What are we to do," said the President of the Thals. "We can't defend ourselves and Mutter's Spiral at the same time. We simply don't have the resources."
"Perhaps we should abandon Mutter's Spiral," said the leader of the Unvoss. "If we are destroyed, many more galaxies could be lost."
"No," said the Renegade. "Mutter's spiral plays too large a role in the history of the universe. If it is wiped out before its time, the results could be catastrophic."
"What are the known details of the enemy plot," said the Cyber-Controller.
"I don't know too much," said Susan. "I wasn't able to observe the meeting for very long. If I had stayed, it would have been suspicious, and my cover might've been blown."
"Well what DO you know," said the President of the Thals.
"They'll attack Mutter's Spiral first," said Susan. "They intend to cause a lot of destruction throughout the galaxy as they advance on Earth, in order to draw us there. The War Chief is involved, but I don't know where. That's all I found out."
"How can we defend against them on two fronts," said the King of the Sunari. "They say that if you chase two fish at the same time, you won't catch either one."
"Not if we have a big enough net," said the Renegade. "We'll find local allies to help us in Mutter's Spiral, so more of our troops will be free to defend the sanctuary."
"Who in Mutter's Spiral is strong enough to help us," said Zirnon, the leader of the Warpsmiths of Phaidon.
"There are some," said the Renegade. "Some of the humans, the Ice Warriors, and the Skrawn."
Susan did a double take.
"You're drawing humanity into the Time War? I thought they were your favorite species!""I can't afford to pick favorites anymore. I have to look at the bigger picture now. We need all the help we can get in order to win this battle. Besides, I'm not drawing in the human race as a whole. Just one or two groups who are advanced enough to participate."
"The humans will try to destroy us," said the Cyber-Controller.
"No they won't," said the Renegade. "Not unless they want their home destroyed."
"We can't let ours get destroyed either," said the leader of the Nekkistani. "We still have to defend the sanctuary, too."
"Don't worry, we will," said the Renegade. "I have a plan, and if we pull it off, we'll be a step closer to winning this endless War."
