Sharon and Derek left the police station feeling a mixture of relief and dread. They had taken the first step in confronting the threat, but the road ahead was uncertain. As they drove back to Sharon's house, the sun was climbing higher in the sky, casting long shadows across the quiet streets.
"Do you really think Lisa could be using a different identity?" Sharon asked, breaking the heavy silence that had settled between them.
"It's possible," Derek replied, his gaze focused on the road ahead. "People like her—obsessive, manipulative—they know how to cover their tracks. If she's been living under an alias, it would explain why she's been off the radar for so long."
Sharon shuddered at the thought. The idea that Lisa had been living a normal life, blending in, waiting for the right moment to resurface, was terrifying. "But why come back now? What does she want?"
Derek sighed, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. "That's what we need to find out. But whatever it is, we won't let her win. We're stronger than we were back then, Sharon. We have to believe that."
Sharon wanted to believe him, but doubt gnawed at her. Lisa had already upended their lives once—who was to say she couldn't do it again? But as they pulled into her driveway, Sharon forced herself to focus on the present. She had taken steps to protect herself, and she wasn't alone in this fight. Derek, Y/N, even the police—they were all on her side.
When they walked into the house, Sharon felt a pang of unease, as if the walls were closing in on her. The house, once her sanctuary, now felt like a trap. She couldn't shake the feeling that Lisa was watching, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"I'll stay here for a while," Derek said, sensing her discomfort. "At least until Kyle gets home. We need to talk to him about this, too. He needs to be aware of what's going on."
Sharon nodded, though the thought of involving Kyle made her heart ache. He was her world, and the idea of him being caught up in this nightmare was unbearable. But Derek was right—they couldn't keep this from him.
As they sat in the living room, waiting for Kyle to return from school, Sharon's mind drifted back to Y/N. She wanted to talk to her, to warn her about the possibility that Lisa and Samantha were the same person. But she didn't want to panic Y/N either, not without more concrete evidence.
Finally, she decided to send a text, keeping it vague but hinting at her concerns.
Sharon: "Hey, I've been thinking about what you said about Samantha. Can we talk more about her when you have a chance? There's something I need to ask you."
She hit send and waited, feeling the tension in the room rise with each passing minute. When Kyle finally walked through the door, Sharon and Derek shared a look, silently agreeing that now was the time to tell him everything.
"Kyle, we need to talk," Derek said, his tone serious but gentle.
Kyle looked between them, his expression curious but slightly wary. "What's going on? Is everything okay?"
Sharon took a deep breath, steeling herself for what she had to say. "We're not sure, but we think someone from our past might be back—someone dangerous. We don't want you to worry, but you need to know what's going on so you can be careful."
Kyle frowned, clearly sensing the gravity of the situation. "Who are you talking about?"
"Her name is Lisa Sheridan," Derek said, his voice steady. "She's someone who hurt your mom and me a long time ago. We thought she was dead, but now we're not so sure."
Sharon watched as Kyle's expression shifted from confusion to concern. He had heard bits and pieces about Lisa over the years, but they had always shielded him from the worst of it, not wanting to burden him with their past. But now, there was no avoiding it.
"Do you think she'll come after us?" Kyle asked, his voice small.
"We don't know," Sharon said honestly, her heart breaking at the fear in her son's eyes. "But we're taking precautions. The police are involved, and we're going to make sure you're safe. But we need you to be careful—don't talk to strangers, don't go anywhere alone, and if you see anything unusual, tell us right away."
Kyle nodded, his expression somber. "I will. But... what about you, Mom? Are you going to be okay?"
Sharon smiled, though it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm going to be fine, sweetheart. We've been through worse, and we got through it. We'll get through this, too."
Kyle didn't look entirely convinced, but he didn't push the issue. Instead, he sat down beside her, his presence a small comfort in the midst of the chaos. Sharon wrapped an arm around him, holding him close, drawing strength from the bond they shared.
As they sat together, Sharon's phone buzzed with a new message from Y/N.
Y/N: "Of course. Let's talk tonight. I'll call you after work."
Sharon felt a mixture of relief and dread. She knew she needed to have this conversation with Y/N, to get to the bottom of the strange connection between Lisa and Samantha. But the more she uncovered, the more she feared what she might find.
The shadows of doubt lingered in her mind, growing darker with each passing hour. Sharon had faced Lisa once before, but this time, the stakes were higher. The past had come back to haunt her, and she wasn't sure if she was strong enough to survive it again.
