They found her in the center of the building, standing in an open area surrounded by half-constructed walls. Lisa was facing away from them, her attention focused on something in her hand—something small and metallic that glinted in the low light.
Sharon's breath caught in her throat as she realized what it was—a gun.
Y/N shot Sharon a worried glance, but Sharon nodded. They had prepared for this. They knew Lisa wouldn't come unarmed, and they had taken precautions. Sharon reached into her pocket, her fingers closing around the small object hidden there—a recording device. She pressed the button, starting the recording, and then took a step forward.
"Lisa," Sharon called out, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her insides.
Lisa spun around, the gun in her hand rising to point directly at Sharon. For a moment, their eyes met, and Sharon saw the familiar madness gleaming in Lisa's gaze. But there was something else there, too—something that made Sharon's blood run cold. It was a twisted kind of satisfaction, a look that said Lisa had been waiting for this moment, had been planning for it.
"Well, well," Lisa said, her voice dripping with malice. "I knew you'd come. You just couldn't resist, could you?"
"Put the gun down, Lisa," Sharon said, keeping her voice calm and even. "This doesn't have to end like this."
Lisa laughed, a harsh, bitter sound that echoed through the empty building. "You think you can just walk away from this? After everything you've done? No, Sharon, this is how it ends. This is how it was always going to end."
Y/N took a step forward, her hands raised in a gesture of peace. "Lisa, please. We can talk about this. You don't have to do this."
"Stay out of this," Lisa snapped, her gaze flicking to Y/N with a dangerous intensity. "This is between me and Sharon."
Sharon's mind raced, trying to find a way to diffuse the situation, to buy them more time. She had to keep Lisa talking, to distract her long enough for them to find a way out.
"What do you want, Lisa?" Sharon asked, her voice soft but firm. "Why are you doing this?"
Lisa's eyes narrowed, her grip on the gun tightening. "You know why. You took everything from me. Derek, my life, my identity. You ruined me, Sharon. And now it's my turn to take everything from you."
Sharon's heart ached with a mix of fear and pity. Lisa was lost, consumed by her own hatred and obsession. But Sharon knew she couldn't let that pity cloud her judgment. Lisa was dangerous, and they were running out of time.
"I'm sorry, Lisa," Sharon said, her voice trembling with sincerity. "I'm sorry for everything that happened. But this isn't the way. We can find another way to make this right."
"There is no other way!" Lisa screamed, her voice cracking with emotion. "This is the only way!"
In that split second, Sharon saw her chance. She lunged forward, knocking the gun from Lisa's hand. It clattered to the ground, skidding across the concrete floor. Lisa screamed in rage, throwing herself at Sharon with a ferocity that took her by surprise.
The two women grappled, their struggle desperate and chaotic. Sharon's mind raced as she fought to gain the upper hand, her body moving on instinct. She could feel the raw power of Lisa's hatred, the sheer force of her will, but Sharon refused to be overwhelmed. She had too much to lose.
Y/N rushed to help, grabbing Lisa from behind and pulling her off Sharon. The three of them tumbled to the ground, a tangle of limbs and raw emotion. Sharon fought to keep her head clear, to stay focused on the goal—to survive.
Lisa screamed and thrashed, her nails raking across Sharon's skin, but Sharon didn't back down. She could feel the desperation in Lisa's movements, the wildness of someone who had nothing left to lose. But Sharon had something to fight for—her son, her future, her life.
Finally, with a surge of strength, Sharon managed to pin Lisa to the ground. Y/N quickly grabbed the gun, holding it out of Lisa's reach. Sharon's breath came in ragged gasps as she looked down at the woman beneath her, seeing not just the monster who had haunted her for so long, but also the broken, desperate human being that Lisa had become.
"It's over, Lisa," Sharon said, her voice trembling with emotion. "It's over."
Lisa stared up at her, her eyes wide and wild, a cocktail of emotions swirling in those dark depths—anger, fear, despair. For a moment, Sharon thought she saw something else too, a flicker of recognition or maybe even regret, but it was gone as quickly as it had appeared.
"It's over," Sharon repeated, though the words felt almost hollow as they left her lips. She wasn't sure if she was trying to convince Lisa or herself.
Lisa's body went limp beneath Sharon, her fight seemingly drained from her. "You don't understand," she whispered, her voice ragged and broken. "I've lost everything because of you. You ruined me, Sharon."
Sharon eased up slightly, still wary but giving Lisa a bit of space. She had won the physical struggle, but now came the harder part—making sense of the mess Lisa had become. "What happened to you, Lisa? Why couldn't you just move on?"
