As she left the station, Sharon felt a renewed sense of hope. The police were on her side, and with their help, she was confident they could uncover the truth about Lisa—about Samantha—and finally put an end to the nightmare.
But as she drove home, that familiar unease crept back in. She knew better than to underestimate Lisa. The woman had proven time and again that she was capable of anything, and Sharon couldn't shake the feeling that they were all walking into a trap.
Later that afternoon, Sharon met up with
Y/N at her house. Y/N had spent the day continuing her research, determined to find any additional information that could help their case.
"I spoke with Detective Harris," Sharon told Y/N as they sat in the living room, a cup of tea in each of their hands. "He's taking it seriously. They're going to look into Samantha's background and see if they can find anything that ties her to Lisa."
"That's good news," Y/N said, nodding. "I've also been digging a little deeper. There's something I found that I think you should see."
Y/N handed Sharon her laptop, the screen displaying a series of old news articles. Sharon scrolled through them, her heart pounding as she read the headlines.
One article, in particular, caught her attention. It was about a mysterious woman who had been seen near the site of an unsolved arson case. The description of the woman matched Lisa's appearance, and the timing coincided with when they had believed Lisa to be dead.
"She's been active this whole time," Sharon whispered, the realization hitting her like a ton of bricks. "She's been out there, doing who knows what."
"It looks that way," Y/N agreed, her voice somber. "I think she's been covering her tracks, staying under the radar until she was ready to strike again."
Sharon's mind raced with the possibilities. Lisa was more dangerous than they had ever imagined, and now that she was back, she wouldn't stop until she got what she wanted.
"We have to be ready," Sharon said, her voice filled with resolve. "Whatever she's planning, we need to be one step ahead."
"We will be," Y/N assured her, placing a hand on Sharon's arm. "We're in this together, remember?"
Sharon nodded, taking comfort in Y/N's presence. They had come this far, and they weren't about to back down now.
As the evening wore on, Sharon and Y/N continued to strategize, piecing together the clues they had gathered and trying to anticipate Lisa's next move. The more they uncovered, the clearer it became that they were dealing with a woman who had nothing left to lose—a woman who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.
By the time Y/N left, the sky was dark, the moon casting a pale light over the quiet streets. Sharon stood at the window, watching as Y/N's car disappeared into the distance. The house was silent, the only sound the faint rustling of the wind through the trees.
Sharon took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the shadows outside. She knew that somewhere out there, Lisa was watching, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. But Sharon wasn't the same woman she had been all those years ago. She was stronger now, more determined.
The battle was far from over, but Sharon was ready. This time, she wouldn't let fear control her. This time, she would be the one to end it.
And when the storm finally came, Sharon knew she would face it head-on, unflinching and unafraid.
