we would lie there in the grass and listen to the chirping of crickets in the distance / the lazy buzz of bumblebees /& the warm / fragrant scent of honeysuckle that filled the air / it would always put me at ease / the silence between us / as if the entire world froze in its tracks just to give us a moment of peace /

even when my words failed / i felt like my heart knew how to speak to you / even when my thoughts were jumbled / your heart knew the way to mine / always / even when the world stopped listening /

but sometimes i wonder if my heart’s messages reached you at all / you always seemed so far away despite being right next to me / it was as if you were always on the edge of reality /
drifting away with every passing day / even when i thought i was reaching out to you / you always had your walls built up / keeping me further away than i cared to be /

my heart tried to reach you / but it felt like i was grasping at empty air / never quite reaching you / maybe someday you’d open up and allow my heart to reach your own / but today is still far away . . .
