"The world is round, my square don't fit at all." -Queens of the Stone Age
You'd never worn a school uniform before. It felt weird. Like a costume. Leaning forward, you examined your face in the full length mirror and patted out the concealer under your eye, trying to make it look as natural as possible given the fact that Glenmoore had a strict no makeup rule. Then, sighing, you dusted off your skirt, pulled up your knee socks, then looked around your desolate, empty room.
It was small and dim with one square window, two beds, one with nothing but a bare mattress and the other (yours) messy and unmade. Since you'd enrolled later than everyone else, you didn't have a roommate which you were thankful for in the moment but had a feeling it could get really lonely.
Just as you were about to make your bed, you jumped as the bell rang loudly, indicating it was time for breakfast.
"Shit." You muttered to yourself, scrambling around, looking for your bag. You opened it up and pulled out a piece of scrunched and wrinkled paper with your schedule on it to see where you'd be headed after breakfast.
English, room L6, M.F
"M.F..." you thought to yourself, trying to think if you'd met that teacher during your tour and induction yesterday. It didn't ring a bell.
You shoved your schedule back into your bag then grabbed your phone and threw it in there too before slinging your bag over your shoulder and leaving your room, not bothering to lock it behind you. Following the herd of students out of the girls dorms, you walked across the courtyard, biting your nails nervously, then into the main building and joined the single file line of girls walking into the cafeteria.
There were four very long tables set out with food in serving dishes in the middle. The table on the far left for freshmen, then sophomores, then juniors and then seniors on the far right where you belonged. It was a very small school with how private and expensive it was, only having about thirty people per table. Compared to how everyone else held themselves and acted, you felt like street trash. And based on the way everyone looked at you as you walked and sat down, they probably thought the same of you.
"Good morning students!" Principal Hargrove said as she stood at the front of the cafeteria, hands held in front of her, her posture tall and proud. Her grey hair was tied back into a tight bun and she wore a dull grey pencil skirt and matching blazer. Behind her stood all the teachers, listening to her morning announcement. Your eyes travelled over them, only recognising a couple, when your attention focused upon a very handsome man in a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black pants and a red tie.
"Good morning Principal Hargrove." Everyone responded in a chorus of voices, shaking you out of your trance as you looked around at everyone giving the principal 100% of their attention.
You glanced back at the man in the red tie and caught his eye as he looked at you with a neutral expression. His eyes were almond shaped and dark, he had neatly groomed stubble and his hair was dark and thick. You swallowed hard and averted your gaze, pushing down the inappropriate thoughts that sprung to mind as his gaze lingered on you and you felt butterflies not only in your stomach.
"Upon finally reviewing last years grades and results, I am absolutely appalled by the lack of effort each and every one of you have been putting in to your studies." She started, voice and face stern. "Therefore I am introducing the new punishment policy. Firstly, there will be no more warnings, simply punishments as you should all be well acquainted with the rules by now and there's no excuse to be breaking them. The first broken rule will result in a detention. The second will result in three days detention as well as being assigned groundskeeping tasks. And finally the third broken rule will result in one weeks isolation, groundskeeping tasks and revoking access to extracurricular activities."
