"We live in a world where people can ridicule you at the push of a button." -Chadwick Boseman

It was now Thursday and you were stuck in a meeting with all of your teachers and the principal to discuss your behaviour and decide the appropriate punishment. While your parents were called, they failed to arrive, leaving you sat alone on one side of the long meeting table and seven teachers sat on the opposite side looking at you with judgement and disappointment. The principal sat in the middle, your art, history and French teacher on the left and your science and math teacher on the right along with Mr. Fischbach. It felt a little intimidating being so outnumbered but you looked to Mr. Fischbach for some comfort and solace, his soft face and gorgeous features easing your nerves a little.

"Miss Y/L/N are you even paying attention?" Principal Hargrove asked sternly causing you to move your attention from Mr. Fischbach to the centre of the room again.

"Yeah." You said, slumping back.

The principal tutted in frustration. "This is exactly what I'm referring to. Your whole demeanour and attitude, lack of addressing superiors appropriately or holding yourself to a high enough standard is shocking. You've only been here just over a week and you've already gained a reputation." She then removed her tiny glasses perched on her pointy nose and let them hang from the chain around her neck. "I'll ask each faculty member here individually now for their reports on your behaviour in class so far starting with Mrs Meecham if you will."

Your art teacher, Mrs. Meecham, cleared her throat and began to read from the papers in front of her. "Y/N has shown talent and skill in art but unfortunately fails to apply herself and complete work-"

"Excuse me if I could chime in for a moment." Mr. Fischbach said, lifting the pen he was twiddling into the air before leaning on the table. "I think going over reports like this given how long Y/N has been enrolled is a little unfair. She's still adjusting, you said it yourself she's only been here a week. She hasn't exactly had time to prove herself."

You smiled a little at Mr. Fischbach's defensiveness of you and felt the scales tip just a little in your favour. This felt good.

"With all due respect Mr. Fischbach, none of our other students have behaviour reports that can compare to Miss Y/L/N's in all their time here, never mind in their first week."

"Given her background though-"

"Her background has nothing to do with it. Whether she's used to public school or not, each and every student is to be treated equally." Principal Hargrove said. You felt the scales tip back. This felt like shit.

After what felt like an eternity of your teachers berating and criticising you for each little detail, it was now time for Mr. Fischbach to give his report.

"Y/N is..." he started, looked up at you for a moment, a light hint of a smile on his face, then looked back down at his notes. "...a pleasure to have in my class."

You raised your eyebrows and stifled a laugh as the other teachers turned to him with confused and shocked looks. He then continued.

"While she has some troubles with focusing at times, she has shown great potential. She has a profound ability to speak her mind, put things into words even I wouldn't be able to describe, and a real talent for debating and discussing topics at hand. I feel as though her attitude and behaviour is not a result of pure rebellion but as a form of self expression. Her mind is truly great and I'm convinced that with a push and the right support she can learn to apply herself and reach her potential." He put the paper down and then looked around the room. "And given her background I do in fact think she shouldn't be reprimanded and ridiculed like this. For someone so used to a completely different system I can completely understand why she behaves differently." He added. "I'm not saying she shouldn't be..." he looked at you. "Punished. For breaking the rules. But this is unfair."

The teachers sat there in silence for a moment and you began to clap your hands slowly.

Clap

Clap

Cla-

"Miss Y/L/N." Principal Hargrove snapped. You put your hands in your lap quickly and tightened your lips.

"Sorry ma'am." You said quietly.

"Well." She began. "I can see that the two of you have established a sort of... connection. It seems you see something in this girl and can get to her in ways the rest of us simply can't. So... in which case... your punishment will go as follows Miss Y/L/N."

You held your breath, ready for the worst of it. If you were to be suspended you'd never get that car your dad promised. Your toes curled at the thought and your mouth turned dry as you waited.

"One week of isolation. You're to arrive at my office at 8AM sharp and leave no later than 4PM. Additionally, Mr. Fischbach will be assigned as your personal tutor from now on. You're to see him everyday in between final period and dinner to discuss your behaviour and arrange an action plan to improve yourself."

You tried not to smile. This didn't feel like a bad deal at all.

"Given our new policy I should be assigning you groundskeeping tasks too but given the pushback I'm sure I'd receive from Mr. Fischbach, I think focusing on improving your behaviour should be the main priority as of now." She continued.

"Yes ma'am." You said as politely as you could.

This was going to be good.
