"It's a funny thing coming home. Nothing changes. Everything looks, feels, and even smells the same. What's changed is you..."

It was about two in the afternoon when Fallon and Kate arrived at the airport in Oklahoma. They'd already picked up their luggage in cargo as well as CJ who was waiting patiently for his owner.

When they finally made it outside, someone was waiting for them at curbside, leaning against a white truck. His face wasn't familiar to Fallon but it sure was to Kate.

"Is that him? Javi?" Fallon muttered in Kate's ear. She simply nodded. "Yeah, I knew he was gonna be hot when I heard his voice."

Kate scoffed out a laugh. "Quit it."

Javi turned his head, noticing the girls approaching in his peripherals. A smile that seemed almost relieved fell upon his face once he spotted Kate.

"You came," he said as they finally reached him. His gaze panned to Fallon and then her dog, half confused half wary. "You must be Kate's neighbor, right?"

"Yep, Fallon Harding. Pleasure to meet you." Fallon grinned, shaking Javi's hand. Then she motioned to her dog. "This is CJ. You won't have to worry about him, he doesn't bite... well, unless I tell him to."

"That's comforting," Javi said, amused. "You guys ready to go?"

"Yeah," Kate replied plainly. She'd lost most of her energy on the plane ride over. The constant overthinking and apprehension did tend to wear a person out.

"Here, let me help you with your bags." Javi offered, taking the luggage from both girls.

As he opened the backseat door to put them inside, Fallon leaned back to whisper in Kate's ear again. "And he's a gentleman? Where've you been hiding him, Ms. Carter?"

Kate couldn't help but smile as she rolled her eyes.

"We landed not too long ago—yeah, CJ's fine. What? No. Gran, he did his business before we got on the road." Fallon said while on the phone with her grandmother. She was sitting in the backseat, between CJ and their bags while Kate sat in the passenger.

"Was Kate's friend nice? Was he cute?"

Fallon snickered at Ruth's typical nosy questions. "Yes to both. But hey, I'll talk to you later. We're gonna stop soon."
