Leilani Tylin fiddled with her fingers as her Master, Trinity-Sky Bay, made meeting a renowned Jedi sound like a monumental event. She could tell that Leilani was worried.
Trinity-Sky gently placed a hand on Leilani's shoulder, her voice calm and reassuring. "I know I made meeting Bastila Shan seem like a big deal, but don't overthink it. I've known her and trained with her since we were younglings. She's serious but kind."
Leilani looked up, concern still etched on her face. "I'm sorry, Master. It's just... it's been nearly a year since I became your Padawan, and I haven't interacted with many important Jedi."
Trinity-Sky smiled warmly. "No Jedi is unimportant. Everyone has a role, from the tiniest youngling to the oldest Master. Some roles may seem bigger, but that doesn't mean you lack purpose. Importance always changes. For example, you are crucial to our mission here, and one day, you might lead your own quests."
Leilani's tension eased, and she managed a small smile. "Thanks, Master. You always know the right words to say."
Trinity-Sky chuckled softly. "I've known you a long time, Leilani. I did raise you until you were old enough to join the younglings."
She had a difficult secret to keep from Leilani. Over 14 years ago, Trinity-Sky had been on a cold planet for a diplomatic mission as a Jedi Knight. Walking through the city toward her ship after wrapping up negotiations, she suddenly felt a dark presence in the Force.
A female Sith Lord stood before her, clutching a baby. Suspicion flared within Trinity-Sky. She believed the Sith had murdered the baby's parents and stolen the child. With resolve, she ignited her lightsaber and attacked.
The Sith Lord quickly placed the baby on a crate and ignited her lightsaber. When Trinity-Sky's blade clashed with hers, she felt a jolt of fear as she recognized the face before her.
It was Darth Thoro Tylin, infamous for her power and cruelty, and married to Darth Juelo Tylin. Together, they controlled ten planets, making them a formidable duo. Trinity-Sky had only heard rumors of their ruthlessness.
Darth Thoro hoped that Trinity-Sky's fear would make this a quick fight, allowing her to escape with the child. Only she knew the truth: the baby was her daughter.
Trinity-Sky couldn't afford to dwell on her fear. She had to save the baby at all costs. She couldn't let the child be raised in the ways of the Sith.
Their lightsabers were locked together, neither able to gain an advantage. Thoro had the upper hand, her blade inching closer to Trinity-Sky's neck.
Suddenly, Thoro slipped on the ice, losing her balance. Trinity-Sky seized the moment, swiftly severing Thoro's hands. Upholding the Jedi value of preserving life, she deactivated her weapon.
She rushed to the crying baby, who had sensed the tension during the fight. "I've got you," Trinity-Sky whispered, lifting the child. The baby calmed, sensing the goodness in the Jedi.
Trinity-Sky took Leilani back to the temple and had a male Jedi named Jolee Bindo do a DNA anakysis of the child on a computer.
The computer read
Leilani Tylin
Varkona City, Xalor Prime
Age: 3 weeks and 1 day
Born on the 3rd month and the last day of the week of the Universal calendar
Parents: Juelo Tylin and Thoro Tylin
Trinity-Sky's eyes widened. "There's no way the Sith I encountered didn't take up a Sith name. She... reused her first name? Wait, there's no way Leilani is the child of Sith Lords."
Jolee Bindo checked the system. "Well, the system shows that Juelo Tylin is dead. If you're that uncertain, we need another blood sample to see if half of Leilani's DNA matches Thoro's." He noticed blood on Trinity-Sky's sleeves. "Is that your blood?"
She shook her head, cradling Leilani. "No, it's from Darth Thoro when I cut her hands off."
Jolee snipped a piece off and analyzed the blood. "A perfect match. She is Leilani's biological mother."
Trinity-Sky looked down, absorbing the revelation. "I see. So, should I try to find her mother?"
Jolee shook his head. "No, the Sith are dangerous. The less contact, the better. It's also not fair to Leilani to be raised in a cruel environment with no chance of seeing the good. You may raise her until she is of age to be trained as a youngling."
She looked at Leilani, now sleeping peacefully, and smiled. "That sounds like a great idea."
To this day, Leilani didn't know she was the child of Sith Lords. Trinity-Sky was convinced it wasn't necessary for her to know. To Leilani, Trinity-Sky was like a mother. She had raised Leilani for a few years and intentionally planned to train her, hoping for ten years that no one else would take Leilani as their Padawan.
Not long after Trinity-Sky spoke of importance to Leilani, Bastila Shan's ship arrived.
"Here we go," Trinity-Sky said, taking Leilani to meet her friend.
