Every glance, every whispered word from her classmates echoed in her mind, amplifying her guilt and regret. The weight of it all pressed heavily on her chest, making it hard to breathe. As soon as she got home, she rushed upstairs, ignoring her mother's concerned greeting, and shut herself in her room.
The moment she collapsed onto her bed, the tears she had been holding back all day began to fall. She buried her face in her pillow, trying to muffle the sobs that shook her body. She felt overwhelmed by the mess she had created—the relationships she had shattered and the pain she had caused. Everything felt like it was crumbling around her, and she had no idea how to fix it.
Time passed in a blur, and she barely noticed the hours slipping by. The light in her room dimmed as the sun set outside, leaving her in the quiet, darkened space with only her thoughts for company. Eventually, a soft knock on her door pulled her out of her spiral.
"Angel, sweetie, are you okay?" Her mother's voice was gentle but filled with concern.
Angel didn't respond at first, hoping her mom would just go away. She wasn't ready to face anyone, not even her. But the knocking continued, more insistent this time.
"Honey, please let me in. I'm worried about you."
Angel wiped her tear-streaked face with the back of her hand and sat up, her heart heavy. "Come in," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Her mom opened the door slowly and stepped inside, her expression softening when she saw her daughter's red, puffy eyes. She crossed the room quickly and sat down beside her on the bed, wrapping her arms around her in a comforting embrace. "What happened?" she asked, her voice soothing as she gently stroked Angel's hair.
For a moment, Angel hesitated, unsure of how to even begin. She felt a lump form in her throat, and she swallowed hard, trying to find the words. "It's... it's complicated," she finally said, her voice trembling.
Her mom pulled back slightly, just enough to look her in the eyes. "Whatever it is, you can tell me. I'm here for you."
Angel took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. "It all started two years ago," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "With Nicco... we... we... you know..." Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she couldn't bring herself to say the words.
Her mom's eyes widened slightly as she pieced it together. "Oh, honey," she said softly, a mix of surprise and concern in her voice. "You and Nicco... you were intimate?"
