The light is blinding. Jimin strains his eyes to see. The ground is not stagnant—he's moving towards the light, closer, and closer, and closer. The space around him was unfamiliar, except for the light and the path he was on, it was just a dark void. Yet he wasn't afraid...he almost felt at peace.
He was dead.
Hundreds of other souls were moving up just like he was, into the light. As they got closer, they faded into transparency, until they were simply just souls. Jimin looked around, suddenly feeling alone. Most of those around him were elderly, there was no one his age. He died so young...
"Hey."
"Jimin turned around as a hand touched his shoulder. There was a man slightly taller than him, with bright doe eyes and a youthful face. As if someone were reading his thoughts, a man his age appeared.
"Hey," Jimin responds.
"Sorry, but," He stares at him. "It feels like you and I are in the same boat. We died young, we're around the same age. This whole thing is so confusing. Would you mind if we stuck together?"
"Please," They're getting closer to the light. "I'm Jimin."
"Jungkook," They grab hands, shaking them.
And the light consumes them.
*
It was like they had been cleansed of all their earthly flaws. All the people in this world were translucent and beautiful. It was uncrowded—much different than the moving runway into the light.
But Jungkook was still here. Their linked hands must have kept them together. It's only now he lets go.
"The world looks like glass," The taller breathes.
It really did. Everything was completely clear, with a shiny hue. Jimin reaches up to touch the branches of a glass-like tree. It was cool and firm to the touch. What an odd space. This was nothing like Jimin ever thought an afterlife would be.
"It's so quiet," He murmurs. The absence of sound was deafening. "I don't know if I like it."
"I guess it's eerie," Jungkook shrugs. "But at least we're not alone, right?"
"I think I'd be terrified if I were alone," He admits. "I'm glad I didn't lose you, at least until I can figure this place out."
"Me too," Jungkook smiles. It's comforting, Jimin thinks to himself. He feels like he can trust Jungkook. This doesn't seem like an afterlife for bad people. Jungkook is probably good.
Jimin starts walking. The place they were transported to was full of lush greenery—or, would be greenery if the colors matched those on earth. It really was beautiful, albeit a bit unsettling. There were worse places to be after death.
"So..." Jungkook starts. "How did you, uh, get here? I mean you're pretty young, and well-"
"You mean how did I die?" Jimin cuts him off.
"Well, I didn't want to be that blunt," He gets quiet. "But yes. How did you die, if you don't mind me asking?"
"It was weird," Jimin tells him. "I was just walking home like normal, and I was robbed at gunpoint. I told him it was a fake gun...it wasn't. It hurt, but here I am."
"Oh..." Jungkook trails. "I'm so sorry."
"I'm sad, but I can't do anything about it," Jimin frowns. "So I guess I should adapt to here, hm?"
"I guess..." He sighs.
"What about you?" Jimin looks at him. "How did you die?"
"I think I was just too stressed in my life," Jungkook doesn't make eye contact. "I had an aneurysm. I felt no pain, I was just suddenly in that void."
