What would I do without you, Aru?

Aiden Acharya entered his apartment complex, exhausted.

Being a commercial photographer was hard as he worked long hours, and was put under pressure. Most of the time, it tired him out.

He pressed the upwards arrow on the elevator and the doors opened immediately, an elderly couple walking out.

They smiled at him and Aiden smiled back.

He entered the now empty elevator and pressed "7" on the circular keys, lighting it up.

It reminded him of when Aru used to electrocute demons with Vajra when they were teenagers.

Now, it was all just memories.

Ding!

Aiden hastily got out of the elevator and walked to the end of the long hallway with cream walls, lined with dark wood doors, and gold signs with numbers indicating which apartment was which.

He approached the one that had the number "404" and unlocked it.

As soon as he opened the door, the scent of cooking spices like turmeric and cardamom hit him. It was pleasant, and smelled like his mom's cooking.

Aiden took off his shoes at the shoe stand, hung his coat in the closet and walked down the little hallway that led into the living room, strewn with fairy lights and lined with photos of their friends over the years.

As he reached the end of the hallway, the smell got heavier and he looked to his left, where his wife was cooking food, her back to him.

Her long, thick braid stretched to her mid thigh, tied under the knot of her black apron. She wore black, wide legged sweatpants and what seemed like one of his dark blue hoodies.

The sight brought a smile to Aiden's face.

Aru turned around and beamed, "You're back!"

"Are you cooking?" he asked, placing his camera bag on the coffee table.

She walked up to him, spatula in tow, wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed a soft his to his cheek.

"Well, we can't always order door dash." Aru turned around and went back to the kitchen slab. "Mini says it's not healthy."

Aiden smirked and took a seat on his favourite armchair that faced his wife.

As she worked, chopping up vegetables of sorts, he saw the glint of her gold wedding ring and he felt an immense amount of pride.

Aru was his wife.

Maybe it wasn't the best decision to get married at 21 and 22, but everyone knew it was going to happen anyway, so why wait? She supported him through all the financial struggles they had at the beginning, and when everything was wrong, she was right.

Every day, she was the one he wanted to come home to, and she will be the one he would love eternally, in every lifetime.

Aiden walked up to Aru and hugged her, burying his head in the nape of her neck. He felt her tense and the skin on her neck heat up.

Aru turned to face him, "What's this?"

Aiden hugged her tighter, "What would I do without you, Aru?"

She laughed and smirked at him, "You would die, a slow painful death."

Aiden sighed, but smiled.

He's never been good at telling people how he felt, but she made him want to try.
