Assignment 5: Part 4 - Pregnancy

Tuesday 17th October

Charlie's POV

Nick and I went to our first doctors appointment yesterday, confirming the pregnancy and I am currently 1 week pregnant.

I haven't had many pregnancy symptoms so far except from the odd morning sickness which I am thankful for. Nick has been very helpful ever since he found out I was pregnant and making sure he is as involved as he can be during the pregnancy.

We're going to tell our parents today, we know it will go well because they know it's part of the project but it's still quite nerve-wracking. We're going to talk to Nick's mum first and then my parents afterwards.

Once we're both ready to go, we walk over to Nick's old home. When we get there I instinctly reach toward the door bell, but Nick reaches for the handle and opens the door before I press it. "Charlie you're not a guest, you're my boyfriend, come on in." He says reaching his hand out towards me and I grab it in return, blushing.

"Mum!" He shouts.

"In the kitchen Nicky!" I hear his mum shout back. He follows the sound of his mums voice, pulling me along with him. Once we're in the kitchen his mum turns around to look at us. "Nicky it's so good to see you darling, and Charlie you too, how are you love?"

"I'm good Mrs Nelson, thank you." I reply.

"Please, Mrs Nelson makes me seem old, call me Sarah." She says with a laugh. "How is school going, is that silly project going alright?"

"That's what we came to talk to you about actually." Nick pipes up, taking the lead. "We had a new assignment due on the 19th and well we've completed it and wanted to tell you."

"Well that's good then, what was the assignment?" She says, placing some small sandwiches on the counter gesturing for us to have some.

Nick continues which I'm grateful for. "Well it was the big one. To get pregnant." He pauses for a moment allowing his mum to take the information in. "So what I'm really trying to say is -"

"You're pregnant?! Which one of you is carrying?" She says excitedly with a big smile on her face.

"I am." I say, finally having the courage to add to the conversation. I feel Nick's hand squeeze mine.

Sarah turns to me. "Oh that's so exciting Charlie! How are you feeling about it? Any symptoms yet?" She asks enthusiastically but with caring concern.

"I'm actually excited? I'm not sure I've grasped the whole concept in my head yet. I'm only 1 week along so not many symptoms except the odd sickness here and there." I reply. Talking about it with Sarah felt really nice.

"Oh that's great Charlie. If u ever want to talk about it or need anything throughout the pregnancy, just know you can always come to me." She says, coming over to hug me. I flinch at first still not used to physical contact from anyone other than Nick, but relaxing into the hug straight away. She steps back with a concerning look on her face but it quickly disappears, so I feel like I imagined it.

"I will, thank you Sarah." I smile.

"Well we'll come and see you again soon mum, we best go, we need to go tell Charlie's parents the news too." Nick says.

"Oh yes that's fine, don't make it too long though I've missed you." She says giving him a quick hug and walking us to the door.

"We'll see you soon mum." He replies, and we walk out of the door, giving her a wave as we go.
