𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐇
Detention. I've only been in here.. 1..2..3...8.. Times.
I wasn't the best kid freshman year.
I sit at the desk, staring at the wall. There's nothing to do here but sit and sulk in your bad choice.
Sit and sulk for the next.. I look up at the clock slowly ticking away at every second.
3 hours.
I sigh. The teacher watching over us narrows her eyes at me as if she's about to yell at me for sighing. I wouldn't even dare to take a peek at my phone under the desk.
Someone, If you can hear me.. Save me.
Ryder's not bailing me out. Hazmah for sure isn't doing it. Ethan...? Ethan's probably at home sleeping already.
The classroom door swings open.
There she is. My savior. But why is she here?
Summer greets the teacher, who for the first time smiles. She must be on her good side. She sits down, convinvently in the empty desk next to mine.
I attempt to whisper a sentence to her, but the woman at the front throws daggers at me with her eyes. What's her problem?
A pen drops to the ground right next to my foot. I pick it up and the cap falls off. A small folded up piece of paper slips out.
Hi :)
I dig a pencil out of my pocket and write back on the note.
Hi. What r u in here for??
Summer and I exchange glances before I pass the small slip of paper to her without our eyes meeting.
I watch her write down a response before she discreetly passes it back over to me,
Cursing :/ u???
I write down my respone and pass the paper to her.
dresscode....
lets get out of here, meet at left stairwell !
I raise my hand and ask to use the restroom. With an annoyed groan, the teacher allows me to go. I walk out the detention room, looking to my left and right and making sure it's clear of any staff. I make my way to the left stairwell, waiting on Summer.
After about 5 minutes of waiting, I hear the door to the stairwell open. "Soo... what are we doing here..?" She steps closer to me, her light brown eyes pouring into mine.
"I was bored of being in there. I'm sure you were too.. It can't be too bad if we sneak around.. Right?" She lets out a huff, thinking about it.
"Only cause it's you."
I beam, taking her hand and starting to go down the long stairwell. We jog down the steps together, finally reaching the first floor. "Soccer field?" I ask. She nods, taking my hand again as we cruise around the empty school on our way to the field.
We push past the two double doors. The air out is warm. The sky is painted with pinks, yellows, and oranges. The air carries a salty smell to it, carrying over from the nearby beach. The field is completely empty.
We settle down somewhere on the field, staring up into the sky. "Can we talk?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Go ahead." Summer nods, patiently waiting for what I have to say.
"We hang out so often now. You ditch your friends and sister to eat lunch with me. Why?" The question comes out a bit of a mouthful, but it's been on my mind for a while. My arms lay on my chest as I look up at the sky.
She dosen't speak for a moment. Neither of us do.
"I'm not sure if I want us to be a 'thing'." Her tone of voice feels like a punch in the gut.
"What do you mean?"
"I..." Her words trail off before she finds them again. "I don't want to get my heart broken." Her voice is hushed.
Im slightly taken aback. I've done things in the past, but that's behind me. "Why do you think I'd do that?"
"You're a player." Her tone is flat, almost like she dosent want to believe herself.
My lips pursed together, suppressing a look of disbelief.
"You seriously think that of me?" I sit up a bit, trying to gauge the emotions on Summers' face.
"You do have a record."
"Did."
We go silent. All I can hear is the leaves rustling in the wind and the crunch of the grass below us. Summer starts to speak again.
"Im starting to like you. And thats scary." She pauses. "I witnessed my sisters heart get absolutely torn into shreads." Her face starts to crumble.
"No.. Summer.." I quickly embrace her in a hug, keeping her close to me. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry if I ever made you think anything. I'd never hurt you. Ever." I say into the cook of her neck.
"You promise?" She says softly.
I pull away from the hug, looking into her eyes. "My promise to you, Summer." A faint smile tugs at the corner of her lips.
"I'll take you home." I stand up.
She laughs. "You're acting like we still don't have detention." I put my hand out to help her up from the ground. "And, how'd you know I don't have a ride?" Her brow raises.
"I didn't. I just wanted to take you home." I respond. "And don't worry about it. I'll get our detentions cleared." I say. She takes my hand and stands up next to me. "How so?" She teases. "Nothing a little money can't fix." I shrug, taking her hand.
She laughs again and it's like music to my ears. After I thought I had completely ruined everything, hearing that made it feel as if everything in the universe was going right.
We walked off the soccer field and into the student parking lot. Summer and I got into my car. (My navy blue Lamborghini Urus, AKA my son. if you're really curious to know.)
The car ride actually wasn't silent at all. Summer introduced me to all the songs she loves. It was mainly a lot of Faye Webster and Laufey. We laughed and made jokes with eachother, our conversation flowed effortlessly. Our words bounced off of eachother.
Soon we got to her house and I stopped infront, putting the car in park. For the first time in fifteen minutes, silence dawned apon us. The loss of music left a lingering feeling in the air. Time felt like it had stopped altogether. It felt as if she was magneitcally pulling me towards her. Our eyes met, and for brief a second, I felt my gaze drop to her lips.
"Uh– Goodnight, Micah!" Quickly, she snapped of the moment and it was as if we both came back to our senses. "Goodnight, Summer." I pulled away from her, watching her get out the car.
"I'm fucked."
