Jim Pov:

Toby and I finally made it to school though we surely were going to get in trouble for being so late. Luckily we had Strickler's class so we might get a slap on the wrist.

We hurried to his room opening the door and causing all eyes to turn to us. Strickler stood there quietly giving me a look that told me to sit down and we would talk after class. I nodded making my way to my seat and taking out my books.

He resumed teaching when the door opened again. I turned towards the entrance to see a boy I'd never met before. He was (taller/shorter) than me, his hair was well kept and his eyes were a captivating e/c. Though my description didn't do him enough justice. My face warmed the more I studied his features which was weird because I'd never thought this way about a guy. "You must be the new student I was told about." "What's your name?" Strickler greeted the boy. "Y/n." He responded shaking the older's hand.

"Well Y/n you can have a seat anywhere you'd like." The boy nodded eyes scanning the room looking for an empty spot. It only took a second before he started walking towards the seat in front of me.

Y/n Pov:

20 minutes into class and man I was bored. I didn't have a computer assigned yet so I just sat there staring at the clock. "Close your mouth. You're drooling." One of the boys behind me whispered kinda loud. I ignored them not wanting to eavesdrop until the other one said something that caught my attention. "Hey, look up "talking amulet"." I perked up at the weird request. I continued to eavesdrop as they 'whispered' about some thing they found in the canal.

Unfortunately, Mr. Strickler caught him talking so I couldn't listen anymore. To make it worse the bell rang so I wasn't finding anything out soon. I stood up grabbing my bag before Strickler stopped me. "Y/n may I have a word with you?" He asked walking up to my desk. I silently agreed with a nod and put my bag back on the table.

"Y/n I'd like you to meet Jim." The older said gesturing to the boy I had been previously sitting in front of. I smiled politely shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you, Jim." I greeted. "Nice to meet you too."

"Jim I would like for you to show Mr. L/n around. Maybe even provide him your friendship" Strickler requested though it was more of an order considering I doubt Jim would say no, which he didn't. Strickler also wanted to talk to Jim privately so I decided to wait outside the door.

After a minute or two he walked out stopping in front of me. "You got your schedule right?" I nodded before rummaging through my bag looking for the paper, careful not to disturb the tiny magic wolf still hiding in it. I found it a few seconds later pulling it out and handing it to the boy. His eyes skimmed the parchment. "Looks like you have most of your classes with me." He said before handing the sheet back to me. "Well, lead the way." I said slinging my bag back over my shoulder. Jim began walking and I followed, making slight small talk as we walked.

*Timeskip*
Jim Pov:

Finally, a few hours later school had ended. Y/n, Toby, and I were walking toward the exit when a commotion stole our attention. We all turned to see Eli being shoved into a locker by Steve for the hundredth time. "Who's that tool?" Y/n asked raising his eyebrow. Toby explained as I stared at the scene the urge to do something tugging at me.

I walked towards the two pushing past the group that had formed around them. "Tell me again, dweeb-face. Tell me about the creatures and maybe I'll let you out!" Steve ordered. I could care less what he was talking about I just wanted him to let Eli out. "Or you can let him out right now. I mean, you know, it would be nice." I stammered a little. He turned around glaring at me before speaking. "Nice would be you minding your own business." He spoke harshly, jabbing his finger in my chest before turning back to the locker continuing to make fun of the stuck boy.

"Look, Steve, seriously, just let him out." The blonde turned around again glaring harder than before. "Or you'll do what?" He questioned picking me up and slamming me against the locker.

His fist retracted ready to hit me when a hand gripped his other wrist. We both turned our heads to be met with a pair of e/c eyes narrowed at Steve. I didn't know whether to be relieved or surprised, not expecting this from the guy I'd met only hours ago. "Let him go." He demanded, tone perfectly matching the look on his face. "Or what?" Steve returned a similar energy, though it couldn't compare to Y/n's cold and intimidating demeanor.

"You wanna use your wrist tomorrow?" He said lowly at a volume only the three of us could hear. What I heard next shocked me even more. *Crack*

It wasn't loud but it was audible. Steve took a moment to evaluate his options before looking back at the male. The blonde nodded causing Y/n to release him. Steve scoffed before letting me go, staring at me angrily. "Friday, at noon. You and me. And leave your little boyfriend out of it." He challenged before walking away.

I opened the locker as Eli fell out, landing with a loud thud. "Thanks, Jim." He let out weakly. "Interesting first day." Y/n said before walking away unbothered like he didn't just threaten to break someone's wrist. I followed after him rejoining Toby before leaving the school.

*Jim's House*
Y/n Pov:

I didn't realize normal school could be so draining, and I thought hunter training was brutal. I was just gonna head home but Jim invited me to walk home with them. I wanted to decline but I changed my mind. I don't know why but something about this boy intrigued me.

A car stopped next to our trio as we walked. We halted and the window rolled down revealing a red headed woman. At first I thought she was Toby's mom but the way they interacted I'm guessing she was Jim's. At some point, we were introduced but my mind was elsewhere mostly on getting to the canal that Jim mentioned earlier. Well what he spoke about with Toby and I just so happened to overhear.

The car drove off and Toby parted ways with us heading to his house which was closer to Jim's than I thought. "Would you like to come in?" The raven-haired offered. "Maybe some other time I gotta get home." His face visibly dropped when he said goodbye but I promised we could hang out tomorrow.

As soon as he went home I gently went through my bag, gently scooping W/n out and placing (gender term) on the ground. I watched as (gender term) grew in size before climbing on (gender term) back and going "home"

*The Canal*

'I was right' I thought to myself noticing the strange pile of rocks under the bridge. I approached the suspicious heap cautiously. When close enough I lightly kicked a rock to make sure nothing would spring out. "Oh if Commander Adaire saw me now." I thought aloud imagining how the man would react to me walking up to odd things unarmed while kneeling to get a closer look.

There was one rock in particular I picked up that was cut differently. I ran my hand over the stone noticing the circular shape that was engraved into it.

"Please tell me this is not what Jim found."
