"I was sitting there at the bottom of the pool, when I realised something. I never heard the board come back down" Theo explained.
I frowned, leaning back against the lockers.
"It came at me fast. I barely had a chance to turn around before it bit me. Right here" he pointed to the side of his abdomen.
"Well it wasn't an accident. He wanted to turn you" Scott pointed out.
"Right so why weren't you part of his pack then?" Stiles questioned. "You know, why didn't the come back for you?"
"Because by the time of my first full moon he was dead"
"How do you know that?" I inquired.
"I met another one of his pack. A couple weeks later. Told me the alpha that bit me was killed by two of his own betas. They were twins" Theo answered. The three of us glanced at each other. "Scott, listen to my pulse, I'm telling the truth"
"Right" Stiles stepped forwards. "Or you just know how to steady your heart rate whilst you're lying your ass off"
Scott and I gave him a look.
"Why would I lie?"
"Because maybe you're not who you say you are" Stiles said.
"Okay, in fourth grade you had an inhaler" he turned to Scott. "I had one too. I remember this day where I ended up in the nurses office with an asthma attack, a bad one. I was waiting to be taken to the ER, you were waiting for the principle. You told me what would happen when you go to the ER for asthma - how they give you oxygen, an IV of prednisone. You made it sound easy. Like everything would be okay"
I was caught between wanting to roll my eyes but also feeling kind of sympathetic towards him.
"I've been by myself this whole time. Everybody knows that lone wolves, they don't make it on their own. I swear I'm that same kid from fourth grade. I was hoping you are too" The bell rung and Theo sighed. "I better not be late for class. You're not the only ones I have to make a good impression on"
Scott smiled and nodded but Stiles and I exchanged uncertain glances.
Scott swung his backpack over his shoulder, staring at his best friend.
"No- don't give me that look" Stiles said.
"We have to give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes"
"Not this time, alright. I'm right. There's something off about him I can feel it"
"Lydia's the psychic. Not you" Scott said as he started to walk out of the locker room.
"Lydia's not a psychic, okay she's a banshee. There's a difference!" Stiles yelled after his best friend. "Yeah"
He then turned to me.
"What do you think about him?"
I bit my lip. "Well his story seemed pretty-"
Stiles cut me off. "Absurd? Ridiculous? Untruthful?"
"I was gonna say legit but yeah that works too"
