The six of us stood staring at the photocopied versions of the Dread Doctors book on the table.
"My mom's book club usually has more wine" Lydia stated.
"And they also probably don't read books that cause violent hallucinations" Stiles added.
"That's why Malia's here" Scott said, looking over to Mals who smiled.
"So none of us go running into traffic" Kira said.
"Or worse" I mumbled.
"Like what happened to Judy" Malia spoke up. We all looked up at her with confused expressions on our faces. "Chapter 14"
"Oh"
"Maybe I should have my mother read it" Lydia said as she picked up the book. "She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone"
"Right, if it works" Stiles pointed out.
"It has to"
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"I think I saw them during my surgery" Lydia answered. "When I look at the cover of the book, it's almost like-" she cut off.
"Your memory trying to surface" Theo finished.
We all glanced up at him.
"Yeah"
"Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?" I questioned.
"If they did something to me" Lydia nodded. "I wanna know what it is"
I picked up a photocopy of the book and sat down on the sofa with a sigh.
Here goes nothing.

After a while of reading, my eyes were getting tired and I could barely keep them open.
I reached over to grab my coffee cup and sighed when I realised I'd drank it all.
Now feeling restless, I looked around at the others who were busy reading.
The silence made me uncomfortable, especially when my stomach growled.
A couple of minutes later, Scott finally spoke up. "Anyone feeling anything yet?"
"Tired" Kira said.
"Hungry" Lydia added.
"Both" I mumbled.
"I think he meant the book" Theo said.
I looked over at him and raised my eyebrow.
'What?' He mouthed.
I shook my head and got back to reading the book.
I heard Kira huff and lay down.
"You're not giving up are you?" Scott asked.
"I'm just resting my eyes"
She reached up to the light and flicked the switch, leaving us in darkness.

A loud crash woke me from my sleep.
I looked down to see that my book had fallen on the floor.
Quickly, I glanced around, hoping it hadn't woken anyone else up.
Upon only hearing my heart beating out of control, I lay back down.
"Kara?" Someone whispered.
"Holy fuck!" I almost yelled.
I heard the unmistakable laugh of Theo Raeken. "Sorry"
"Why are you still awake?" I hissed.
"Couldn't sleep"
I was about to open my mouth when Theo shushed me.
"What?"
"Come with me"
I rolled my eyes and stood up, following Theo into the bedroom where Kira was sleeping.
I heard her mumbling and frowned.
"That doesn't sound English" I commented.
"It sounds Japanese" he said, pulling out his phone.
"What are you doing?"
"Recording her. I wanna figure out what she's saying"
