MISGENDERING

The next day Barry woke up and went to work. There was something off about today's murder. The victim had been shot thirty three times in the head. That couldn't be possible. There’s no way the shooter's aim was that good, and the force of shooting so close up that many times would hurt the shooter, so they definitely wouldn’t have been able to erase the security tape footage, like it had been. It looked like they were dealing with a meta.

At S.T.A.R. labs, Barry presented the case. Everyone agreed it must have been the work of a meta. “But what kind of meta are we even dealing with?” Caitlin asked, wanting to make sure they had all the details before trying anything risky. The crew stood there, unsure on what kind of meta they were dealing with. “I don’t think it really matters. We’re going to stop this meta no matter what.” Barry spoke up.

“Barry, we’re not even one hundred percent sure this is even a meta.” Cisco said, even though he knew in his gut it was a meta.

“Doesn’t matter whether we’re dealing with a meta or not, I’m gonna catch this guy.” Barry said determinedly. Before anyone could respond, he ran away. The crew looked around the room. They all knew no one could talk him out of catching this guy. Caitlin left the room. She worried that if she stayed too long, she would stupidly get an idiotic idea.

As Barry ran, a man appeared in front of him. The man was tall, maybe 7’8” at least. He also dressed funny, wearing a long black trench coat and a baseball cap with a smiley face on it. “Sorry, ummm….” Barry stood there in awe as the man crushed a bike that Barry hadn’t seemed to notice was in the man’s hands before. “Right…..well……I have to get going.” Barry tried to speed away but as soon as he took a step, he fell. When he tried to get back up, he couldn’t. “I can sense your sadness. Someone you care about recently died. Her name was Iris West. And you were in love with her.” The man said in a very deep echoey voice. “Pvv, what!? That’s crazy!” Barry figured this guy was crazy.

“You could not act on your love, as she was engaged. And now you are sad.” The man ignored Barry’s comment. “However, you should not be sad. And neither should Eddie nor Joe. Iris might not have been so bad in this reality, but that was solely because she died too young. I will take you all to see.” The man snapped his fingers and Barry faded away. “Hey! What’s going on?! What are you talking about?!” Barry was alone in a dark room now. Then Eddie appeared, then Joe. “I will show you all an alternate reality where Iris lives. You may hear this and be happy. But when you see, you will be happy for other reasons.” The man from earlier’s voice came on. Barry looked around for him but couldn’t find him. When he tried to talk, he couldn’t. “Don’t bother trying to move to talk, it will do you no good. Oh, well you’re probably wondering who I am. Let me introduce myself. I am Zo-Zo McZoller. I am a meta who was given the power to see all possible realities and change the outcome to what I see best.” Zo-Zo said as he walked out from a hidden door. “I have to worn you, this will hurt.” Zo-Zo flicked a switch and light flooded the room. Then old lady Iris showed up on the wall. And old man Eddie showed up. “She was just trying to do what she thought was right.” Wall Iris said.

“Was she? Was she, Iris!? Because it doesn’t seem like she was to me!” Said wall old man Eddie.

“She doesn’t know any better!” Wall Iris insisted.

“Yes, she does. She’s 24!” Wall Eddie sounded furious.

“She’s our daughter, we’re supposed to be on her side!”

“Not when she murders her uncle!!!”

Zo-Zo flicked the switch again, turning off the wall screen. “I told you it would hurt.”
