Isabelle was probably the nicest person Sami had met since Beth Greene. She reminded him a lot of the poor girl.

With the amount of time that Isabelle had said had passed, he found it all so strange. It felt he hadn't seen Lori Grimes in a lifetime, but eleven years still felt too long. Twelve years since he'd seen his home, his pet rabbits. Twelve years since he met Danny, which made sense, since he could barely imagine not knowing him.

He wondered how long it had been since people's deaths. Beth must have died - what, ten years ago? Glenn must've been nine or so years. Abraham, Sasha, Noah, all the same. He knew it was a year or two since Rosita and Coco died. Rick must've been gone for over eight years. The only timeframe he had prior was Judith. "When Judith was a baby" "When Judith was a toddler"
"When Judith was older".

Isabelle showed him around the abbey, which was nice. It felt as if his father would be around any corner, speaking to a priest about something. Some things, like the pews in the chapel, felt too small, he remembered them bigger. The crosses use to rise so high towards the ceiling he wondered how they were put up there. But now that he was older, he felt almost overgrown. He certainly felt wrong.

Isabelle was proud of the abbey, and to show it to him. She made a few jokes, which surprised him, and explained the history of the abbey, too, which Sami would have found interesting a few years ago.

The other nuns, according to Isabelle, were frightened of him. He felt bad. This tall, probably dirty-looking man, with chunks missing, from his leg to his ear and his finger. Walking about their home. He wanted to leave as soon as possible.

there was a weapons room, lots of medieval weapons aside from a collection of guns that belonged to the priest of the abbey, who was a collector. His office was off of the weapons room, a broken radio inside that Isabelle said he could try to use once he was better.

He learnt that Isabelle and her sister had learnt English due to their parents travelling for work, the pair settling in Paris for university.

Outside, they had farms in the courtyard. Goats and chickens wandering around, the nuns doing their work. Isabelle left Sami with some food in the courtyard, alone. He thought it was a little insane, how much they trusted him. Maybe that was the point. He wouldn't trust himself if this were Alexandria.

Sami was eating a piece of bread, when Florence came over, sitting beside him on the wall of the courtyard, smiling.

"You okay?" He asked, holding out the bread to her, which she took.

She nodded.

He thought for a moment, unsure of how to word what he was thinking. "If you want to stay here, you-"

"No, I don't want to."

He looked at her, confused. "You can speak?"

She nodded. "I just don't like it."

Sami sighed, looking out at the nuns. "Alright. A whole week, and now you're telling me you can speak. And your name."

"You speak to yourself a lot."

"Do I?"

She nodded. Again. "I don't think you realize. But I don't want to stay here. I want to keep going with you."

Now that she was speaking, he could tell she was from England, her accent thick. He found himself wondering how she ended up here. Was she with her parents, looking for somewhere safe? Or was she alone a long time, before Sami found her?
